' ,E M Y ,,,, ,:1,. 3 ,M Z X 5.1 zz' I 23 ' , ,raw M K If I wwf, .- , f 5 3 f , , , f P A ,f ' s X A K Z f If fl t X X I 5 31111 L12 ' QfK,xs BASKETBALL At the First practice session called bv Coach ones late in Noxember there was but one returning letterman Captain oe O Malley Knowing this fact all will readily agree that Coach ones did a superb job of rebuilding the team Starting from scratch he formed a quintet that was a constant threat to the other members of the league at all times Although the Raiders were no world beaters they won their share ot games When they did lose one nexer needed to be ashamed of them for they always played a hne game ln three exhibition games before the start of the regular season our Raiders lost by one point to Hazleton down in Hazleton bv one point to a talent laden Alumni composed of the players of last year s team winner of the Lackawanna League and defeated Clarks Summit by a comfortable margin ln regular season play our Raiders finished the first half with flxe wc tories and four defeats and the second half with three uctories and six defeats But this season s record of eight xictories and ten defeats does not tell the true story ln four of the defeats sustained by our Raiders the opponents margm of victorv was but four points or less and anyone who has ex en the slightest knowledge of the game knows that when a game is lost by such a small margin it IS more often than not that the breaks haxe decided the outcome and I might add that at no time during the season did our Raiders enjoy an overabundance of breaks Another little known fact is that in regular season play our Raiders outscored their opponents 958 to 936 which is quite an accomplishment when you consider the eight won ten lost season record But exen if our Raiders werent League Champions they displayed the ordinary team play and outstanding competitive spirit that will to win that never say die spirit that kept them hustlmg and fighting right down to the final whistle regardless of the odds they were facing or the score against them And if each member of the team retains these traits he so openly displayed during the season he is sure to be a success in anything he undertakes in life Named to the All Scholastic Team and the Lackawanna League Dream Team for the second consecutixe year was Captain oe O Malley oe second highest scorer in the Lackawanna League further distinguished himself by his qreat reboundmg fine playmakmg and inspiring leadership He was offered 1 scholarship at Duquesne Unixersity because of his basketball ability Kenny Wynn also one of the leading scorers in the Lackawanna League receixed Honorable Mention on the All Scholastic Team and barely missed being chosen for the Dream Game Other Seniors who earned a letter were Ken Rabat oe Leunskas and Bob Mielinis As is the custom at the close of each season the annual Red White game was held This year the Red team was composed of Seniors and the White team of umors The White team emerged xictorious in a thrilling overtime battle There were disquieting rumors how ex er that the Red team s loss might have been caused by the large sum of monev their star Vito fthe fix IS onl Solazzo had bet on the White team The preliminary to this game was played by four teams from the Girls Gym League . s ' ' 'w ' y' A 7 v' 1 .1 s Y ' 7' ' - s ' V ' , v ' 1 V y ' ' I . Claire and Beverly were each presented a beautiful cor- sage of roses and Don and Norman received a lovely boutonniere The very versatile Mello Dears furnished the dreamy music for the occasion lm ure that everyone who was present can vouch for the success and enioyment of the first dance sponsored by the class of 1951 FALL FESTIVAL TIME 8 O0 o clock PLACE Boys Gym DATE Wednesday November 15 1950 The traditional fall colors of green and yellow supplied the back ground for the veiy successful Fall Festival Qver three hundred people at tended and everyone had a delightful time Music was provided by the very talented Charlie Masters band to vhich the crowd danced from eight to eleven Two very special treats were provided during intermission Gene Hakuns of the Ted Mack Show plaved his magic accordion and held every one spellbound Then Phil George a member of the unior Class put every body in a dreamy mood when he sang Sentimental Reasons The dance ended as usual with the playing of Goodnight Sweet heart and everyone went home with pleasant thoughts of an evening well spent SPAGHETTI DINNER On November 21 the yearbook staff held a spaghetti dinner at Popoli s not a word of business w as discussed Dinner wasnt served until 8 00 oclock and believe me by that time everyone was starved But the dinner was really worth waiting for as everyone who attended will tell vou Amidst laughter and gab a few of us managed to finish our dinners which when we got them starved as we were wer too much for most of us Heres one for Believe Ir Or Not Alice Maleninskys family had spaghetti for supper and so she had two spaghetti dinners one at home and one with us Wow' After dinner we had community singing and almost everyone in the restaurant joined in Fred Schuman sang Thinking of You and it looked as though Betty Bayless was being serenaded Pictures were taken and they in themselves express the spirit of qaietv which prevailed until it w 'is time to leave for home . Pine and attractively decorated Christmas trees mantled the stage, establishing a cheerful Christmas spirit. A typical Christmas Eve scene opened our program: Santa Claus, Christmas tree, and toys.
