D THE BA D PLAYED D Before school had even started, the Lion Band was practicing to prepare for football season. Under the leadership of Cheryl Snipes, drum major, and Mr. Frank Elrod, director, the band performed half-time shows that were enjoyed by all. Twirlers Diane Elrod, Tammy Howell, Karol Keils, and Robin Wilks also en- tertained the audiences. ' During pep rallies, sounds of the Fight Song and The Alma Mater filled the gym. With the band play- ing, spirit soared sky-high! Entering the marching contest in November, the band received a third division rating, and at the spring con- cert and sight-reading contest, they placed a two in each category. The entire year the band stayed busy with parades and ensemble contests held in different towns. A number of band members made the all-district band. The Lion Band held many fund-raising events for its annual trip. The band went to Amarillo, Texas, where they performed on stage, and enjoyed themselves at Palo Duro Canyon. Melissa Coekerham reigned as band sweetheart, while Blair Halbert served as band beau. 1, Kim models the latest fashion for early hand rehearsal, 2.
