Besides the usual routine of classes and activi- ties, the Seniors started pre- paring for that last walk down the aisle as a THS student since the beginning of the school year. They had all been going full force from the time portraits were taken in the fall to the time when they turned in the cap and gowns after commencement. The cynics were silent, the clowns weren't smilingf' Graduation is like leaving behind a whole life. From the time I was six years old I've been getting up at 6:30 and going to school. Everything I did revolved around school and the people I encountered there. School was the reason for most of my joys and most of my sorrows. The world outside of school became more of a blur as I got more in- volved in beating Fairfield, solving the equation for X, and finding out what was happening in town for those two glorious weekend nights that helped us get through the rest of the week. Then, all at once you are standing with your class in alphabetical or- der, and you wonder where the time went. Then you suddenly realize that your high school days are over and that you are about to enter an- otherphase of life-the adult world of college, work, or marriage, and I. 4 . - 1 J this time it would be all alone with- out that classmate that you went with from Sallie Mounger into ju- nior high, and the on to high school. This time you are on your own to make decisions that before were based on what everybody else was doing. Never before had I felt such mixed emotions, it was a feeling of gladness with feelings of emptiness and of being alone. The cynics were silent, and the clowns weren't smiling. It was as if time had caught up with us, and we knew it. I realized it wasn't the end of my life or the end of friendships that had grown through the years, but it was the end of our class as a whole, who had worked and played together through some of the hard- est times of life. It was the end of rivalries and of shared laughter and tears. It was the end of the class of 1979. -,ix 3 ' .v ., Wi W 4 .Vi , -I-, J 3 2.
