A whirlwind of activities were soon un- derway. Band members and football players were hav- ing long, hard practices even before school began. Football was Hkingl' and the Teague Lion Band showed their support at halftime on Friday nights. Spirit grew with each frantic pep rally, exciting game, and well- deserved victory of the Lions. Clubs were organized, and the Student Council was soon plunging into new projects. ln spite of the September heat, we settled down to the routine of classes and were soon working on class projects and studying for exams. 8 I if., A.. .ASW ,,., , ,S V f' . Besides the usual routine of classes and activi- ties, the Seniors started pre- paring for that last walk down the aisle as a THS student since the beginning of the school year. They had all been going full force from the time portraits were taken in the fall to the time when they turned in the cap and gowns after commencement. Okay, get in line Re- member to throw your cap up at the end . . . The cynics were silent, the clowns weren't smilingf' Graduation is like leaving behind a whole life. From the time I was six years old I've been getting up at 6:30 and going to school. Everything I did revolved around school and the people I encountered there. School was the reason for most of my joys and most of my sorrows. The world outside of school became more of a blur as I got more in- volved in beating Fairfield, solving the equation for X, and finding out what was happening in town for those two glorious weekend nights that helped us get through the rest of the week. Then, all at once you are standing with your class in alphabetical or- der, and you wonder where the time went. Then you suddenly realize that your high school days are over and that you are about to enter an- otherphase of life-the adult world of college, work, or marriage, and I. 4 . - 1 J this time it would be all alone with- out that classmate that you went with from Sallie Mounger into ju- nior high, and the on to high school. This time you are on your own to make decisions that before were based on what everybody else was doing. Never before had I felt such mixed emotions, it was a feeling of gladness with feelings of emptiness and of being alone. The cynics were silent, and the clowns weren't smiling. It was as if time had caught up with us, and we knew it. I realized it wasn't the end of my life or the end of friendships that had grown through the years, but it was the end of our class as a whole, who had worked and played together through some of the hard- est times of life. It was the end of rivalries and of shared laughter and tears. It was the end of the class of 1979. -,ix 3 ' .v ., Wi W 4 .Vi , -I-, J 3 2. When school ended last May, our AERIAL was short of com- pletion. The summer progressed with promise of com- pletion soon, as not much seemed to be lacking to fin- ish the yearbook. However, when school started this year and graduated members of last yearls staff went off to college, this yearls staff found there was still quite an enormous amount of work to be done-and re- done-on the book. So-with determination-the staff got busy and completed last year's annual. In a way, this was a good learning experience. We have learned correct procedures and discipline on making a year- book. Also, we have learned to keep on schedule, thus making putting out a yearbooku lots of fun. No one has griped, but all have worked freely and willingly. So-this year's staff will make a new saying- History will not repeat itself . A big special thanks goes to co- editors Kathy Glud, Carrie Gottliebg assistant editor, Mark Mooreg Patsy Copeland, Peggy Copeland, Rita Allen, Diane Elrod, Lyn Iames, Sheila Day and Kim Hodges. These make up this year's staff and are on tire to make the AERIAL the best yearbook in Texas. 60 4-ww nu- ' 5 Q fr., L ! ' 1. . ,, s 1 1 5' ' .lm K., I ...n In Rs... The council is composed of five officers, four representatives from each class, and organizational presidents representing the other school organizations. In addition to sponsoring annual suppers and Teacher Appreciation Day, the Council is very active on both dis- trict and state level. The Council attends two district conventions each year, where this spring, they were elected to serve as Second Vice-President for District 6. This fall they will host a convention for about 900 council members across their district. The officers also went to the Texas Association of Student Councils State Conven- tion this May, where much valuable information was obtained to help with next year's council. Under the leadership of Cheryl Snipes, drum major, and Mr. Frank Elrod, director, the band performed half-time shows that were enjoyed by all. Twirlers Diane Elrod, Tammy Howell, Karol Keils, and Robin Wilks also en- tertained the audiences. ' During pep rallies, sounds of the Fight Song and The Alma Mater filled the gym. With the band play- ing, spirit soared sky-high! Entering the marching contest in November, the band received a third division rating, and at the spring con- cert and sight-reading contest, they placed a two in each category. The entire year the band stayed busy with parades and ensemble contests held in different towns. A number of band members made the all-district band. The Lion Band held many fund-raising events for its annual trip. The band went to Amarillo, Texas, where they performed on stage, and enjoyed themselves at Palo Duro Canyon. Melissa Coekerham reigned as band sweetheart, while Blair Halbert served as band beau. 1, Kim models the latest fashion for early hand rehearsal, 2. High track teams worked hard this year. They competed in track meets in our area and repre- sented our school well. On cold mornings one might see the dedicated athletes running around the ice-cold track or practicing the field events. Their startled nerves in their body shiver and cause the run- ners numb legs to itch. Their tired muscles and aching feet tremble from overwork. The end results of all their work reveals itself at the track meets where each gives his all and goes home either victorious or defeated.
