TAPPING CEREMONY In the fall of the year, the National Honor Society held it’s first tapping ceremony. New members were chosen on the basis of Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. Twenty-seven Juniors and Seniors were in¬ ducted by the old members during the cere¬ mony in which the old members walked into the audience and selected the new members. The program was highlighted by a skit and the presentation of a flower to each new member. New members will be allowed to participate in all future activities of N.H.S. and all Senior members will be eligible to compete for the two one hundred dollar scholarships. 27

In November, five representa¬ tives from the Southwest Vir¬ ginia Community College in con¬ nection with the Guidance De¬ partment presented a program to Tazewell High School Juniors and Seniors. The program included a talk by Dr. Bishara, the Engineering Instructor from S.V.C.C., Mrs. Betty Farley, the Financial Aid Officer of S.V.C.C., and by two former T.H.S. students, Mary Sprinkle and Betty Armentrout. Dr. Bishara presented an overall picture of the educational op¬ portunities, both Academic and Vocational at S.V.C.C. 29
