s ft If graduation meant the end of learning, it would be, indeed, a day of sadness and gloom. But fortunate we are that we never stop learning, and that we learn something from everyone we meet. The following is a true account, told by a doctor, of two lepers, who have much to teach us. A small man, cured of leprosy, but suffering the complications of the disease, was left with destroyed and deformed features: one seeing eye, one functioning hand, no feet. He is always seated on the shoulders of a tall man, similarly cured, but totally bline, without features or hands, but able to walk. A sympathetic bond was struck up between these two patients, who, between them, possessed one eye, one hand, two feet. Quite independent of assistance, and by virtue of their mutual devotion and trust, they were able to exchange talents that made for a full life for both. So sensitive was their relationship that they were never happy when separated . . . These two men were by far the happiest patients in the Leprasarium, for they gave as much as they received, whereas the others were mere recipients. And then the good doctor adds: Mutual sympathy and generosity of spirit appears to be the secret of true happiness, and is indeed the hallmark of a civilized man.
