Mr. Eugene Ross Principal Mr. J. L. Walthall Superintendent of Schools Mr. Claude Van Dyke Chairman of the School Board We might make a list of places such as Bridges Creek, Hodgenville, Shadwell, Stratford, Milan, Thorn, Dole, Blantyre. Never heard of most of them? From these unlikely places came Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Shakespeare, Edison, Copernicus, Pasteur, Livingston. These were all small towns, or sometimes no town at all. Topping the list, of course, is Bethlehem, little among the clans of Judah, but which produced the great ancient king, David, and later One even greater than David. In this day and age we seem obsessed with bigness. We speak of big money, big spend¬ er, and so the important man becomes a big shot. How big is your school? is a familiar question from a stranger. We would do well to remember that God has never been concerned with bigness. He made man from the lowly dust, and He uses small things, unimportant places, ordinary people to ac¬ complish His purposes. Out of a land much smaller than Virginia came two of the world ' s great¬ est religions. Most of us at Tazewell High School come from small places, but we know from the names listed above that there is no limit to the horizon or to the contribution we can make to our world.
