■ THE PEAK NINETEEN HUNDRED FIFTY NINE IVY REPASS BRUCE CLIFTON EDITOR CO-EDITOR JANE COLLINS BUSINESS MANAGER ANNUAL PUBLICATION TAZEWELL HIGH SCHOOL Tazewell, Virginia Our parking lot serves a very useful purpose. Under this roof we have worked and played, laughed and cried, loved and quarreled as we attended classes, assemblies, homeroom programs, basketball games, class tournaments, dances, club meetings, pep meetings and other memorable activities. We work on vocational training and agriculture. We pay allegiance each day. In years to come when we return to these streets, a rush of memories will fill our minds, the mad struggle to get inside the drug store after school, the excitement the day our class rings arrived, our homecoming and circus day parades, the sound of chimes during the World Day of Prayer and the surge of the crowd before the ballgames. To us regardless of how far we go there will always be a place in our hearts for our town. DEDICATION With lingering gratitude and deep respect, we wish to show our ap¬ preciation to one who will always remain outstanding in our memories. We will remember him as he instructed, corrected, and directed us. Because he is always willing to give a helping hand, we, the annual staff of 1959, dedicate this edition of the Peak to Mr. V iley Yates. 1 -«!KBW5=S With Pappy as the drivers educa¬ tion instructor, T.H.S. has some excellent drivers. Pappy ' s familiar facets seen many times at the footba ll games when he could be snug under a blanket on the fifty yard line. Keeping fit in a pleasant way —Mrs. Harman ' s class meets on the athletic field. Study hard—government is important. Mrs. Hubbard makes it interesting and keeps you alert with tests. Science is fun, especially Miss Greever ' s Senior Science class. Mr. Harman ' s algebra class studies hard while he keeps a watchful eye. English Literature means Macbeth but who minds when Mrs. Bowen is the teacher. S| It is still warm and Miss Dickenson ' s art class takes advantage of this fact and sketches the scenes before them. . The click of a typewriter, the rap of a pencil calming us down, loud discussions while planning picture arrangements, arguments about copy, peals of laughter, a whisper of peak secrets, the exclamations over the new pictures--these are the sounds which come from a little room in our school about which few people know, the Annual room. There ten students and Mrs. Bowen have strived to publish the ' 59 PEAK. The staff wishes to express its appreciation for the untiring efforts and guidance of our sponsor, Mrs. Sarah Bowen.
