We hope that in the years to come, when we glance over these pages, we will recall some of the memories of these days spent in the hallowed halls of our Alma Mater. May these pages bring a lump to your throat and a smile to your face when you recall some of the never-to-be-forgotten mem¬ ories of your high school days. TAZEWELL, VIRGINIA D E D I G A T I O N It is with warm friendship and deep admiration that we, the staff of the Peal-, on behalf of the school, dedicate this annual to Mrs. G. O. McGhee, Mr. Casto Ramsey and Mr. James LaVanche. They have capably led our school in sports and endeared themselves to the students and the faculty. We hope that our humble efforts can somehow reveal our lasting friendship, undying gratitude and sincere admiration. Va. The Bear¬ cats were highly favored because of a good line and veteran Inckfield. They were rated as one of the best in this part of the state. After a thrilling first half the Bearcats had a 6-0 advantage. In the third quarter they widened this margin to 13-0. Tazewell came to life in the fourth quarter and scored twice only to have the Bearcats score again. Tazewell lost 20-12, but it showed everyone that Tazewell had a good team. We had this game forfeited to us 1-0. Tazewell journeyed to Abingdon and displayed a lot of good football. When the final whistle blew Tazewell had copped it with a score of 19-7. The Bulldogs led the first half with a 13-7 score. In the third quarter Tazewell scored at will, and Coach Ramsey emptied the bench. The Bulldogs won this one by the score of 33-13. lazewells mighty Bulldogs invaded Graham the following week and did what was expected of thtm. I hey beat the G-Men 19-8. Coach Ramsey played his first team just about all the first half and used substitutions almost all of the final half. This was the second step toward the county championship. The Bulldogs really lowered the boom the following week when they gave Riehlands a good licking and became county champs. Tazewell’s broken field runners seemed to click that night as they took the victory 25-0. Hie following week Tazewell pulled the props from under Marion and won the district cham¬ pionship. They knocked off Marion, 19-0. I azewell got a surprise of their life when lowly rated Northfork held them to a 20-18 win. Princeton invaded Tazewell to play a game which meant the area championship. They had a power house and dumped Tazewell, 27-0. This was the Bulldogs’ first loss. Tazewell revenged themselves on the following Saturday by licking Elkhorn 27-11 in one of the Bulldogs out of state games. This gave us seven wins to one loss. On the following week Tazewell journeyed into Tennessee to play a team which it had not played before and didn’t quite know what to expect. The Bulldogs took their worst beating of the year. Tazewell came home with the sad end of a 35-0 licking. The Tazewell Bulldogs lost a play-off game with Appalachia for quarter state championship. FOOTBALL (Individual) Billips Conley Hawks Morrison Kitts Hagy Dinkous Burkett Taylor Gillespie Mullins Collins Dailey Sparks Wilson Beavers Peters Harrison Stevenson Hughes VanDyke Bulldog’s District 1 Champs Play-off with Appalachia for Quarter State Championship Tazewell’s first step to the play-off game was when four of Bristol’s players were ineligible and they forfeited the game to Tazewell, 1-0. We took Abingdon 19-7 for our second straight district win. We mauled Pocahontas 33-13 and the district championship looked closer. This was a game in which our first team scored at will and Ramsey kept waving in substitutions. We journeyed to Graham the next Friday and beat them 19-8 with substitutions playing most of the second half. Richlands visited Tazewell the following week and absorbed one of the worst beatings in the history of the county rivals. This 25-0 win was a big step to the district championship. The next week we cinched the district championship when we toppled Marion 19-0. iwy m !§ i ■ si— V c- ] F O O T B A L L SCHEDUFF Tazewell 12— 20 Bristol Tazewell lO- l Abingdon Tazewell SS— 13 Pocahont ' L Tazewell 19— 8 Graham Tazewell 27- 0 Richlands Tazewell IP— 0 Marion Tazewell 20— 18 X orthfork Tazewell 0— 27 Princeton Tazewell 27— If Elkhorn Tazewell 0— 35 Erwin HATS OFF TO: Roger Hagy —For his fine pass receiving and his block that led the way to Kitts’ run which put us ahead in the Elkhorn game.
