'With your co-operation, Taylor High School can become one of the most out- standing schools in Texas, These words spoken by Principal Howard L. Oliphint at the first assembly of the year are a statement of his main goal throughout this, his first year at Taylor High, and for all years to come, Co-operation--among the students and between the students and the faculty-- Mr, Oliphint believes to be the basis of all success, whether it deals with sports, District Meet, or any other phase of school life, Taylor High School is Mr, Oliphint's first concern, l-le's the first to praise our accomplishments and the first to try to help us correct our shortcomings. To make our school an outstanding one is his desire, and with his optimism and willingness to work, it is sure to go forward, To you, Mr. Oliphint, who have taught us to look to the future, and to profit by our past mistakes, we dedicate The Mallard of 1956-57, Feet in school. , . hurrying and scurrying, fast and slow, going to classes and activities, Feet in heels? They belong to teachers, who do their best to instruct. Feet in loafers, propped on a chair? Their owner is talking to the person across the table, , ,signifies study hall, of course, Feet keeping time to the beat of the music, up, down, up, down, Where are they? Cer- tainly, in the band hall, Feet in white shoes, keeping time with the cadence count? The Greenj ackets are march- ing along, 1-2-3-4. Feet in track shoes, running hard and fast? Sportsl And we've won again! What, no shoes? Oh, yes, it's a sock hop. Feet in dressy shoes? They're at a dance or a party having fun. Feet heading home? Another day is finished. To the Seniors, may we convey a hope that the experiences in high school will challenge your best efforts toward a very constructive life as a citizen in the community. E Superintendent In school we form life-long friendships. But these are not ends, they are but means. These immediate benefits are greatg nonetheless, they are incidental. The honors given you are priceless, as they evidence the respect and friendship of your fellow students: they are of real value only as they are true reflections of service rendered and distinction merited. Our efforts are fruitful, our costs are justified, only if our principles form our character and thus are carried and exempli- fied outside the school. Nothing should make us forget that all our studies, our efforts, our advancements, are but to strengthen our lives. With a true perspective, a proper purpose, steady accom- plishment, genuine achievement, the value transcends any price we have to pay.
