HAPPINESS IS . . . A HELPING HAND Happiness is ... a test-tube and a room full of fruit flies to Mr. Windlow, head of the Science De- partment at Taylor High School. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where he attended Oak Park High School School. He was promoted to Oak Park High School in River Forest, where he participated in many ou t- side activities. Included in these were, membership in the Honor Society, the Sportsmen ' s Club, and the track team. Mr. Windlow earned his B.S. Degree in 1950, at the University of Illinois. He then attended Indiana University at Bloomington and received his Master ' s Degree in 1966. Mr. Windlow has received many awards in his teaching career. Included in these were three In- Service Grants from the National Service Founda- tion, to study at Purdue. In 1964 he was given a National Science Foundation Grant to study at Northwestern University, lUinois. In 1968 he was given another grant from the National Science Foundation to study Marine Biology and Ocean- ography at the University of Rhode Island. He was one of 35 outstanding teachers chosen from the entire United States. Mr. Windlow met his wife-to-be, Joanne Ren- naker, in the seventh grade. The fall after gradua- tion from high school, they became engaged and after graduation from college, they were married. They have three lovely children; Jeffrey Scott, who is now 14, Debbie Lee, 13, and Christopher Mark, 10. They also have another addition to their family, Archibald, a black minature poodle. Mr. Windlow began his teaching career at Washing- ton School in Grant County, Indiana. Then in 1958 Taylor School opened her doors to Mr. Jesse Wind- low for many years of Service. At Taylor, he re- ceived an Outstanding Teacher award, from the PTO. Mr. Windlow has been hi Iy recognized for his outstanding work with Taylor Science Fairs. Every year at the Science Fairs, Taylor walks away with the majority of the ribbons, trophies, and awards. Mr. Windlow has built up the Science Department so that it is the best, and it has received commend- able recognition. For instance, this year in the Taylor Science Fair, Sandra Jones went on to be a first place winner in the Regional Fair. She and her sponsor, Mr. Windlow, were sent to Fort Worth, Texas, adl-expenses paid, to compete in the Interna- tional Science Fair. He has been class sponsor for the class of ' 69 for the past four years. The first class graduating al- ways has to set a good example and pave the way for the classes to come, and Mr. Windlow has made sure that we did. Without the hard work that Mr. Windlow has put into the senior class, we could not be as proud of our school as we are. He is one in a million, full of energy and encouragement. Happiness is . . . Mr. Windlow. You may not be a very big man in physical stature, but we think you ' ve done some pretty big things for our school. As graduation nears and passes, many of the Se- niors you have taught will remember you as a strong, helping hand, that has helped us achieve many goals. Thank you . . . Mr. Windlow.
