Beginning home economics students prepare their first breakfast: hot chocolate and scrambled eggs. Laying out your pattern is a beginning step in making a dress. The Home Economics Department was eligible to elect a student as a correspondent for the CO-ED mjigazine for the first time this year. Janet Jones, a sophomore, was elected to represent Taylor for the 1968-1969 school year. During the year Janet served as a junior editorial advisor to CO-ED. Through questionnaires she told CO-ED about popular ideas and fads among the girls in our school. Three senior girls were given awards this year for outstanding achievements in Home Economics. Anita Snipes was given the McCedl Award for her work in sewing. The Crisco Award was presented to Kathy Chiles for excellent work in all fields of Home Economics. Martha Cannon won the Betty Crocker Award. Every senior girl who had taken Home Economics sometime during her high school years was eligible for this award. Audio- Visual Department Purchases New Slide Projector Happiness is our library, because it serves our teachers, as well as the students, in many ways. Mrs. Brumbaugh, assisted by her student helpers prepare subject bibliographies for the teachers. These bibliographies include outside reading lists for special units or projects. Extra copies are available to the students. The library also sends newsletters to the teachers informing them of new materials the library has received. Classroom instruction is given by Mrs. Brumbaugh on the use of library tools. For special classro om projects a cart of books is prepared and delivered for the teachers convenience. The Audio-Visual Department aids teachers by presenting films and preparing classroom displays. Under the direction of Mrs. Brumbaugh and Mr. DeWitt, nine student helpers set up, deliver, and operate equipment, dry mount pictures on poster boards, apply protective coverings on pictures and old newspapers, and make Leroy lettering signs. Throughout the year, the department has pur- chased educational slides, records, a tape recorder, and new overhead projectors. This year a course in government was a new re- quired class for our seniors. In the spring, they visited our State Legislature to observe the actions of our government. They also took a tour of the capital building. In the United States History classes each student was required to give a campaign speech for the presidential csindidate of his choice. After all speeches were given a mo ck election was held in the U.S. History and government classes. In the Audio- Visual Department, the dry mount press is used for mounting pictures on poster board.
