SASEBO Entry by water into Sasebo is quite an experience. The scenery has the appearance of the traditional Japanese silk screen. Crags, shrouded in mist, pierce the morning horizon with numerous fishing craft anchored near their shores. Navigating, the fishing fleet is like Macy's on the day before Christmas. A closer look discloses neat, clean, terraced fields utilizing every square inch of arable land. Towns are crowded into the low-lyinggareas with no apparent plan or design. An 'occa- sional can be distinguished in the 'skyline of each.'The countryside appears to be rural al- though the industrial areas, around Sasebo are plagued with the same problems of smog and air pollution as any other city. The waters of the harbor are filled with debris, sewage, and assorted Japanese sea serpents, which are rarely seen by a sober seaman. Jane Russell 'Peak
