The votes were widespread, except for the favorite soap opera Guiding Light won by a landslide. We found out that teenagers have quite a bit in com- mon, but they also differ in many ways. Miss Melvin appeared to have lost her proverbial marbles on inside out day. And on Tourist Day, well, Mrs. Faircloth took all honors as the tackiest of tourists! Merle Dugal Business Education Linda Faircloth Language Arts Has Miss Melvin gone mad? Mrs. Faircloth — which way is Miami? 24 Faculty “On the Road” in 83-84 1983-84 was a busy school year for those faculty members attending conferences to improve their skills. Mrs. Parker and Mr. Annin attended the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference in Jacksonville in October. Mrs. Daniel, Mrs. Woodell, Mrs. Hamby and Mrs. Faircloth went to an English conference in Fort Walton Beach. Mrs. Sewell and Mrs. Yarbrough attended a media conference in Orlando and Mrs. Lindsey went to St. Pete to study aerobics. Mrs. Daniel, Mr. McGlocklin and Coach Barr Burnt up the highway this school year in the process of writing performance standards to be incorporated with those from the rest of the state. These will hopefully result in a uniform curriculum for the entire state. Each Monday night for two months administrators, teachers, students and community members met in group sessions to compose the large manual which guided the SACSS team during their three day visit to the high school. Mrs. Anne Morgan was the school chairman for the evaluation. Taylor teachers spent their Monday nights last fall as students in a course designed to prepare them for the SACSS evaluation which was held in February. SACSS is the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools which decides the continuing accreditation of Mrs. Lindsey and friend conduct a health class. 26 Wanda Lilliott History Susan Lindsey Physical Education Dalene McGlocklin Chorus Tom McGlocklin History Parents Contribute to School’s Success While the high school owes a lot to its faculty, administration and staff, the parents are sometimes overlooked in their many contributions to the efficient running of the TCHS machine. Where would the senior class be if their dedicated parents didn’t put together mums, sell balloons, cook hotdogs and chaperone cruises? Where would the football team be if the Booster group didn’t meet regularly to guide its course? And a few nights this year Mrs. Woodell wondered where she would have been if some concerned parents of newspaper students hadn’t brought the fixings for missed suppers. It seems only right that the parents who contribute so much of their time to TCHS should be remembered here. Mrs. Martha Wiggins blows up balloons at the Homecoming game. Senior Sponsors Supervise Another Successful Year In spite of a few anxious moments, senior sponsors Glenda Hamby and Tom McGlocklin reported another successful year. This year’s class sailed to Mexico on the Britanis over the Easter holidays. Describing the class of ’84, Mrs. Hamby said: “They are slow starters, but fast to reach the finish line. They don’t make a lot of noise, but they get the job done.” She noted that this year more students worked after school and saved their own money for the senior trip. However, there were plenty of students who worked on fund raisers to finance the cruise. Our Junior year is a time for buckling down and squeezing in all the required courses so that our senior year will be spent having fun! Studies and good grades are all part of reality, even though many of us don’t realize that. Therefore, someone needs to tell these Juniors that they’re not Seniors yet. It was a week filled with excitement, laughter, competition, contests, school spirit and friendship. Attendants were chosen from each class. Juniors honored with this title were Laurie Hendry, Edna Granger, and Sheila Abercrumbie. Our TCHS Superdog for 1983 was none other than Kim Har- rington. Kim’s super personality, energetic school spirit and “big mouth” guaranteed her the prestigious position. Our junior year has had many ups and downs. The ups were the lively pep rallies and good times that we’ll cherish forever. The downs, even though we don’t like to think of them, were falling short in magazine sales and the closing of the school year. We will never forget our old familiar saying: “Chill Out!” 67 68 Left: SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS — Lori Gunter, Amy McMullen, Denise Lewis and Angela Blackwood, Bob Donnelley prepares for Homecoming while Chris Blue is anxious to get back to class. Spending the last 10 years here in Taylor County, Coker brought many changes to the TCHS Athletic Department. He compiled a 53-52 record at TCHS, with the Bulldogs finishing III-A champions in 1978, and district champs in 1980. Upon leaving the position, Coker said that he plans to continue teaching and take life a little easier — though his heart is still with the Bulldogs. Elmer Coker 1 Jack Johnson Jack Johnson took over the job of Head Coach and Athletic Director in the spring of 1984. Former Cairo, Georgia head football coach, Johnson came to TCHS with a 38-12 record at Cairo. For nine years at Thomasville, Georgia, Johnson amassed an 80-15 record. The new coach is working the Bulldogs hard, but he expects results. He was also seen scouring the halls for potential athletes who may have opted out of football in the past. 109 Sonny Bishop, Mike Mincy, Fairley Pitts. Ed Whiddon Dan Taylor Tony Williams Season Turns Sour The Bulldogs started this season with a growl on their lips and a bad glint in their eyes. At season’s end, the growl had turned to a moan, and the steely glint could scarcely be seen through swollen lids. Visions of victory were torn from their grasp as in- juries stacked them like cordwood to be consumed on the pyre of defeat. 110 44 Bustin’ Loose! Brant Giddena, Clay Evans. Mike Mincy Dogs Show Improvement The 1983-84 Bulldogs had a tough season, failing to live up to the expectations of head coach Elmer Coker and the fans. Although the team didn’t enjoy an overall winning season, they did improve over last year. It seems that after opening the season with 2 wins, they fell jinxed by numerous injuries and mistakes. Even though the Bulldogs did not have a very prosperous year, win or lose, the Bulldogs will always re- main 1 in our eyes. Ill Back: Melvin Cribbs. Sonny Bishop. Days and weeks are spent just learning to create layouts, how to write copy, and where and when to make pictures. All the hard work creates pressure on the staff, sometimes causing tempers to flare and blood to boil. But whenever it seems that there is no light at the end of the tunnel, Mrs. Yarbrough always has the perfect solution. Being on the yearbook staff not only calls for creativeness, but good salesmanship. At the beginning of the year, every staff member went out into the community selling ads to the local businesses. By selling ads and year- books, the yearbook staff raised money for this year’s yearbook. The staff also learned about developing of pictures, layouts, and writing copy. The staff benefits from all of this experience. Putting out the yearbook is not always an easy task, for the students must learn to work together in stressful situations. Sometimes the going gets rough, but everyone must learn to cooperate in order to produce the kind of year- book that the staff and the school can be proud of. 155 MEMBERS OF THE YEARBOOK CLASS INCLUDE Back Row: Chris Herig, Tina Mathis. aune Houck Linda Adams, Chandra Bowden, Todd Suban, Andrea Huxford, Wade Ricketson, Alex Murphy, Brian Brad- dock, Kerri Pillow, Amy Kalschmidt, and Tim McDonald. The Orange and Blue Network provides the school with educational videotapes and telecasts football and basketball games, chorus and band con- certs. school board meetings, parades, and other community events. The students in TV production classes benefit from the experience. Some of the students may become directors, audio engineer computer programmers. cameramen, and even performers. This organization, which is sponsored by Mrs. Marjorie Woodell, supports itself by its sales and ads. MEMBERS OF THE ORANGE BLUEPRINT INCLUDE — Back Row: Mrs. Woodell, Michael Bennett, Billy Comstock, Carson Miller, Chris Rigoni, Amy Odum, Kathleen Belcher, Katie Drexler, Tim McDonald, Lisa Murphy, Jason Blan- ton, and Jim Blume. Learning the correct way to pro- duce instead of just putting out a newspaper every month, students also take part in a Journalism course. Learning the difference bet- ween the correct way to put out a newspaper and the incorrect way is the main goal and the paper shows much improvement. The Orange Blueprint, now in its tenth year of publication, competes an- nually to keep up its standard of excellence. The sponsor, Marge Woodell, and editor, Erika Hall, work diligently throughout the whole year to make sure all operations run smoothly. •■v 159 ADVERTISERS (904) 584-4881 (904)584-7321 associat; store Frank T. But more significant than the memories, they have built a firm foundation on which to build their future. Somewhere along the way these uncertain adolescents have evolved into confident young adults. The guidance and supervision they have received here have surely aided the formation of their attitudes and goals. Their experiences here have given them the motivation to move on to better things. Some will go on to be conscien- tious college students while others will remain here to build their lives in Taylor County. tvUaectencc Either way, they have grown into good and active citizens who would benefit any community. The students have had a wide variety of academic, social, and athletic instructional courses made available to them by T.C.H.S. As they have progressed through their years here, they have come in con- tact with teachers and students of many cultures, national origins, religions, and philosophical views. This is the most improtant element of T.C.H.S., its people. This was the year of the Class of 1984. For all of the graduating class, this year shall be remembered FOREVER.
