This Book Was Published By the 1979 Sampler SiaTf Tor SAMPLER Taylor Couniy High School — 1979 Perry, Florida Volume XXXVI 1itors — Skip Poppell nd Tony Swearingen Choices of '79 Panoramic View Academia 1 Achievers 10 Involvement 11 Athletics 16 Community Support 19 A school, like a community, offers many choices. Whether to become the Star Student, the quiet sideliner, the great debater, or the best triumphant player are all yours to sample, to develop and to keep a lifetime. Only when we fail to choose, do we lose. 3 Extend yourself in your chosen fields and gain for now, savor for the future. Eventually you will leave TCHS to choose a new way of life. Your student years will become fleeting memories. But for now, live these memories in ’79 by choosing and becoming involved. 9 Decisions For Life 7 Choosing the Happy Moments Moments of glory, however brief, leave memories for a lifetime. Participate, face the challenge, whether it is to cheer in the stands, run the ball or quietly keep score. Your school gains and you grow through these gains. The sadness of failure is always easily erased by a new moment of success. 14 The choices we make in 79 are ours. We are surrounded by purpose and possibilities. Opportunities are ours to grasp, to develop, to succeed with and to fail. All are at our finger tips and we must choose, for not to would be cowardly. Apathy will develop an assured path to failure. School success in every area demands participation. It is a challenge to choose — to extend yourself for a full life. 17 1979 Homecoming was a big success. Choices were made and carried out. The game was won. The dance was great and everyone was happy. Memories of this Homecoming are stored now forever Academia Academia Academia Academia Academia Academia Academia Academia 21 Dennis Fike Principal Dear Students, Making choices now for the future is very much a part of our academic life here at Taylor County High School. I challenge each of you to plan your course of study so as to build a firm foundation for your choices of tomorrow. Become involved more with your studies, but find time for school activities for they provide moments of glory and fun we will remember always. Participation builds school spirit and respect. With these two, we can combat our foe — apathy. Making choices now is vital for planning your future and the future of our school and community. Make the most of these opportuni- ties for a more successful tomorrow. Dennis Fike 22 Iris Dee Walker — Guidance Counselor Shirley Curry — Dean of Girls Billy Chesser — Dean of Boys Eloise Gardiner — DCT Pupil Support Guidance, library, and the deans' offices compiled form a group under the heading of Pupil Support. Their jobs are to provide the help and information necessary to the students. They handle letters of concern ranging from disciplinary problems to the intricacies of college applications. 25 TCHS Faculty The academic courses at Taylor County High School are of excellent quality offering the students courses to fit tastes ranging from the most conservative college bound to the more specialized training of media and industrial arts. Butch Alford — Social Studies 26 27 Faculiy Assisis Qiudenis Wiih Homecoming Planning and Decoraiing Marie Ezell — English Linda Faircloth — English Lawrence Hughes — Science Becky Gibson — English Glenda Hamby — English 28 Betty Hughes — Home Economics George Franklin — Social Studies Don Johnson — Math Laura Jenkins — Math Special Programs Help Prepare Students for Assessment Test. 29 30 Once again proving that the staff needn't be as large as the student body to be effective, the T.C.H.S. faculty works very hard to involve the students in one of the many faculty sponsored clubs. 32 Peggy Williams — P.E. Jesse Webb — Social Studies Joanne Cupp — Math Nevels Vandagriff — Science 33 Many of the T.C.H.S. teaching staff are talented in other areas, they teach courses other than their specialities, or coach in some area of the sports programs. This interest by the teachers in the extracurricular activities boosts morale and provides a more enthusiastic attitude toward academic studies. It broadens the opportunities for student involvement. Susan Lindsey — P.E Irene Fews — Typing Billy Chesser — Science 34 A moment in the sun. T eacher cheer, too! Georgia Miller — Exceptional Child Coordinator Roberto Sanchez — Foreign Languages 35 TCHS Teacher Aides Wanda Cash — Library Doris Schrammel — Guidance 36 Bryant Russell — S.I.E. Coordinator Taylor County Vocational Administration The Taylor County Vocational School is a part of the county wide educational program providing students with many programs not available, or not available in such advanced courses at T.C.H.S. The original part of the Vocational School was built in 1967, after tremendous success more buildings were added enlarging the school. 37 i - Peggy Sullivan Margie Stewart — Guidance Secretary Marie Lanier — Office Manager Ruth Todd — Adm. Secretary The Taylor County Vocational School, manned by an excellent staff supplies classes and programs to fill the needs of students, most of whom plan to forego the college route and wish to be trained in skills usable in Taylor County and the surrounding area. William Gipson — Horticulture 39 Vo Tech Offers Many Activities and Courses Along with academic and vocational training, the Vo-Tech also provides extra-curricular activities. Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, and VICA are all examples of such.
