GIgAA cJliitaMf, As the curtain rises and we look into the past, we see ourselves as shy and timid children, be- ing dragged to school that bright September day in 1937 by our mothers. We certainly didn't want to go and most of us let the world know it. However, with the help of our teachers we started off on the first step toward our education. After what seemed only a short time, we were in the second grade and there we were joined by Audrey Jean McCall. We fairly skimmed through that year, and soon we found ourselves pro- moted to the third grade. Here we had three additions: Peggy Jean McLeod, Patsy Henry, and John Westberry. We seemed to have learned something under those teachers for we were pro- moted to the fourth grade. Yes. we were in the fourth grade, and we were in the new building, too!! How proud we were!! Before we realized it, we were through that year and in the fifth grade. Wistalone and J. R. Young came to join us at this time and before long we went on into the sixth grade. This was our last year in the new building, and even though we hated to leave it, we enjoyed this year very much. We had one person to come and enter Junior High School with us and this was Betty English. We were in the seventh grade — Junior High!!! We felt mighty big and important now, and the Seniors were just wonderful to us. We felt as if we could hardly wait until the time wou d come when we would be dignified seniors . We were joined by Malloy Andrews and Beity Rae Vann that year and in time we went on up to the eighth grade. It didn't take us long to complete that year and then we were Freshmen. Yes, we were Freshmen!! Under-studies for the big role that we were to play in the next few years. We started out with confidence and courage. We could hardly wait for Freshman Day to come. But that day did come and we knew it, too. Those Seniors really did lay it on us. Besides picking on us unmercifully and making us hand out candy and chewing gum right and eft, they alo made us make speeches and the like. We had all sorts of things to do but we had fun doing ihem. That is one day that none of us will ever forget. During our Freshman year we had quite a few addi- tions. They were Wilma Jean Rowell, J. B. Tedder, and Melvin Capell. At last we were Sophomores. Yes, we were the Supporting Cast for the ones that were ahead of us. This was another important year for us. We started out with light hearts for the year ahead of us. We eagerly awaited the time when we would be chosen to help in the banquet for the Juniors and Seniors. Some of the girls were chosen to be in a chorus girls' act and they were called the Flora Dora Girls. There was a Barber Shop Quartet composed of some of the Sophomore boys. And some of us were chosen to serve. That was really an exciting time for us. We had two new people to join us during this year: Doris Brown and Herbert Hendry. And then we turned around and found that the year was already gone and we were now Juniors. Juniors!! That sounded mighty big to us. We were the Starlets of the show. Yes, we were really working our way up. This was the most important year that we had had. We took part in a lot of activities. It was up to us to sponsor all the dances in order to raise money for the banquet We real.y did have fun decorating for and giving the dances. Then with the help of some of the teachers we put on the Junior-Senior Banquet. We had the Woman's Club decorated like a circus. We all had a lot of fun doing this and we think the Seniors enjoyed it. Here we were joined by Alma Register, Mae Belle Hunter, Jean Keller, Iris Simons, Billy Chesser, Jimmie Guess, and Dean Mixon. Jackie Baxter, Rosella Parker, and Peggy McLeod, who had started out with us earlier but had left, came back then, too. Since this was such a busy year for us, it practically flew by and soon we had already completed our Junior Year. And now we are the Stars. The Seniors of Taylor County High School!!!!! The only new comer that we have had this year is Dolores Hardin. As we look back on the years that have passed so quickly, we realize that we will never again have twelve years like them. We have had fun and most of us have increased our knowledge some. Soon we will be going out into the world but we will always have a warm spot in our hearts for our teachers who were so patient and understanding and for dear ole Taylor High School.
