We certainly didn't want to go and most of us let the world know it. However, with the help of our teachers we started off on the first step toward our education. After what seemed only a short time, we were in the second grade and there we were joined by Audrey Jean McCall. We fairly skimmed through that year, and soon we found ourselves pro- moted to the third grade. Here we had three additions: Peggy Jean McLeod, Patsy Henry, and John Westberry. We seemed to have learned something under those teachers for we were pro- moted to the fourth grade. Yes. we were in the fourth grade, and we were in the new building, too!! How proud we were!! Before we realized it, we were through that year and in the fifth grade. Wistalone and J. R. Young came to join us at this time and before long we went on into the sixth grade. This was our last year in the new building, and even though we hated to leave it, we enjoyed this year very much. We had one person to come and enter Junior High School with us and this was Betty English. We were in the seventh grade — Junior High!!! We felt mighty big and important now, and the Seniors were just wonderful to us. We felt as if we could hardly wait until the time wou d come when we would be dignified seniors . We were joined by Malloy Andrews and Beity Rae Vann that year and in time we went on up to the eighth grade. It didn't take us long to complete that year and then we were Freshmen. Yes, we were Freshmen!! Under-studies for the big role that we were to play in the next few years. We started out with confidence and courage. We could hardly wait for Freshman Day to come. But that day did come and we knew it, too. Those Seniors really did lay it on us. Besides picking on us unmercifully and making us hand out candy and chewing gum right and eft, they alo made us make speeches and the like. We had all sorts of things to do but we had fun doing ihem. That is one day that none of us will ever forget. During our Freshman year we had quite a few addi- tions. They were Wilma Jean Rowell, J. B. Tedder, and Melvin Capell. At last we were Sophomores. Yes, we were the Supporting Cast for the ones that were ahead of us. This was another important year for us. We started out with light hearts for the year ahead of us. We eagerly awaited the time when we would be chosen to help in the banquet for the Juniors and Seniors. Some of the girls were chosen to be in a chorus girls' act and they were called the Flora Dora Girls. There was a Barber Shop Quartet composed of some of the Sophomore boys. And some of us were chosen to serve. That was really an exciting time for us. We had two new people to join us during this year: Doris Brown and Herbert Hendry. And then we turned around and found that the year was already gone and we were now Juniors. Juniors!! That sounded mighty big to us. We were the Starlets of the show. Yes, we were really working our way up. This was the most important year that we had had. We took part in a lot of activities. It was up to us to sponsor all the dances in order to raise money for the banquet We real.y did have fun decorating for and giving the dances. Then with the help of some of the teachers we put on the Junior-Senior Banquet. We had the Woman's Club decorated like a circus. We all had a lot of fun doing this and we think the Seniors enjoyed it. Here we were joined by Alma Register, Mae Belle Hunter, Jean Keller, Iris Simons, Billy Chesser, Jimmie Guess, and Dean Mixon. Jackie Baxter, Rosella Parker, and Peggy McLeod, who had started out with us earlier but had left, came back then, too. Since this was such a busy year for us, it practically flew by and soon we had already completed our Junior Year. And now we are the Stars. The Seniors of Taylor County High School!!!!! The only new comer that we have had this year is Dolores Hardin. As we look back on the years that have passed so quickly, we realize that we will never again have twelve years like them. We have had fun and most of us have increased our knowledge some. Soon we will be going out into the world but we will always have a warm spot in our hearts for our teachers who were so patient and understanding and for dear ole Taylor High School. Qo uU lackUl Seaman cM'tii uf The major sport, football, had a very good season at Taylor High. Even though we are the North Florida Conference Champs, we had a few unfavorable games. Such was the first meet of the team when Landon of Jacksonville defeated the Bulldogs 60 to 0. The following week the Bulldogs invaded Marianna and came home with a defeat of 19 to 7. When the Bulldogs took to their own gridiron, they defeated the Cross City Bears 26 to 6. The second game on their own field was also a victory of 7 to 0 over Alachua. The Bulldogs then took to the road again to play Quincy, only to come back with a defeat of 46 to 6. The following week, taking the road again, they came home with higher spirit than ever before after having defeated the Cross City Bears again 20 to 0, this being the third conference game won with no losses. . Taking the road for the next two games, they were getting more excited than ever and in another conference game defeated Jasper 20 to 6. The next week was the same when the Bulldogs came home with their fifth victory, having defeated Madison 6 to 0. The most exciting game of the season came on the Bulldogs own gridiron when they played their homecoming game. The Bulldogs’ rival of all rivals, the Monticello Tigers, were defeated by the Bulldogs 6 to 0. Taylor High's final game with Greenville determined the North Florida Conference Champs and the Bulldogs copped the title with a 19 to 0 victory, thus ending the season with six wins and no losses in the Conference. Although a few games were lost, the Bulldogs had a very decisive season. They are to be praised for their good sportsmanship and conduct throughout the season. Pn pJnefUf, In a secluded laboratory, high atop Monte Sano, we see a mighty brain at work, Professor Patsy Henry with her capable assistant, Elaine Thompson. It seems that the renowned scientist is appar- ently on the verge of completing a laborious experiment. And our guess is not wrong, for with a spontaneous shout of triumph the doctor calls to two on-lookers seated in the corner of her mysterious work shop. The figures rise and we recognize Miss Marion Boyd and Mrs. C. H. Robinson, sponsors of the Senior Class of 1949, of Taylor County High School. And as we listen we overhear the resounding voice of the professor announce that she is now ready to perform the initial, test of her complicated, amazing locator machine. The Professor suggests that they attempt to look in on members of the Graduating Class of 1949. So with a monotonous hum and sudden illumination, to say nothing of the arrangement of the many dials of the control board, an image appears on the view-plate. It is Herbert Hendry, class president, and we see him in the heat of his campaign for governor of his resident state, under the management of Bo Westberry, with an occasional suggestion by his wife, the former Miss Betty Dale Callicott. A hasty switch of controls reveals to its audience the tall smoke stacks of a busy factory, and as the focus is changed we notice its name, The Puffaway Cigarette Manufacturing Company, owned by Ralph Reddick, Cecil Lyons, and J. R. Young, with Miss Carolyn McLeod as secretary for the firm. Next, we visit the office of the Parasaps Publishing Company, foremost publishing company of high school annuals, and see Doris Brown and Jimmie Guess, the owners, examining the material for the I960 TaCoHi. With a contrasting change of atmosphere, there flashes before us the Sad Souls Funeral Home, which is enjoying a thriving business, thanks to the cooperation of Dr. Richard Kasell, with its oper- ators, Sammie Gunter and Joseph Carlton. As a last resort Herschel McClellan is now undergoing treatment by the doctor, probably his last treatment. A casual glance at Taylor High School shows Doris Pittman, Ruthie Mae Parker and Alma Register efficiently serving as assistants to the principal. Proprietor of a flourishing clothing store for gentlemen is Shelton Burford. Among the employees of his WeFitYou Shop are Franklin Stephens and Ralph Gamble. Success and prosperity have also reached Cleo Shealy, thanks to his business supervisor, Harriet Lockhart and his Brainless Beef Factory, Unlimited. Hep-Cats all over the country are thrilling to the tremulous tempos of Rug-Bug Chesser and his Really Rugged Rhythm music. A hasty retreat seems in order as we notice Juanita McIntyre at last about to catch a man. Ha! Ha! Elza Landry is chief drummer for the Bum-Dum tribe of north Ricafa. He is a recognized expert at this means of communication and occasionally performs some remarkable gymnastics while beating his skins. The next scene is the studio of two highly successful commercial artists, Jackie Baxter and Rosella Parker, who draw for the publication Frills and Fashions. Among the special features of this magazine is Alda Higdon's column, Home and Husbands. Dashing madly about his veterinary shop tending to the ailing animals, Monk Capell flashes across the view-plate of the locator. Charles Goodman and J. B. Tedder are star salesmen for the Perfunctious Prattle Publishing Com- pany. Bending over the blueprints, Martha Lee Stephens and Betty Jean Hendry are apparently un- aware of the din of the production lines of the Skihi and Hyer Airplane Corporation. They are the most successful woman executives in the country. The automotive repair shop of Dean Mixon, in need of a good repair job itself, is doing a fine business on the bent fenders and crushed door of Betty Rae Vann's convertible, which she recently wrecked. Mechanics servicing the car are Hubert and Malloy Andrews. Bennie White and Wilma Jean Rowell are being sponsored by their employer in the Brains and Beauty Contest as the Fairest and Fastest typists in the world. Instructors at the Nauseous Nights Academy have just welcomed Jean Keller and Iris Simons to their midst as professors of Spanish. Fashionable members of the gracious gossips of town society are Jo Edd Whiddon, Wistalone Brannan, Virginia Wright, and Betty English. Johnnie Dell Lynn, Mae Belle Huter, Nelda Faye Woods, and Audrey McCall are members of Evelyn Mantzana's Be Slenderized and Idolized Reducing Clinic. Having thus looked in on all members of the Class of '49, our host switches off her miraculous machine and graciously accepts the congratulations of her visitors. The lights darken in the strange laboratory and we wind our way down the slopes of Monte Sano into—reality. 1 ' . .0 1he fyolUuatiuj,Pniin GitiyenicMaoe Made. the PuJdiocMan aj 7hii Annual LAWRENCE'S STORE.........................Perry.
