X. 57 'Ike Pant Mean with Vocational flqfucultune Our Vo Ag Department and Chapter of Future Farmers of Amerrca got off to a good start this year Our chapter presrdent, Lemuel Dever, was elected president of the North Central Drstrrct of F F A , one of our advlsors, Mr Walter Cooper, was elected president of the Vo A9 Teachers Assocratron of our dlstrrct and our other advisor Mr F T Her-sley, .lr , was elected secretary and treasurer Our Leadership Tralnrng Center at Hardrnsburg was attended by sixteen F F A members A full schedule of organized work and play was enloyed by all Richard Phrllrps was one of the eight camp councrlmen and was awarded a Star Camper honor Lemuel Dever was a Star Camper and Donald Colvm was on the honorable mentron lrst These awards were on the basis of leadershrp abrltty Our department was very active rn partrcrpatrng rn both the Taylor County Dalry Show and the Drstrnct F F A Darry Show More than a dozen blue ribbons and several red ones were taken by our chapter members Cooperation by partlcl patmg In these events shows an mterest In the betterment of our community The Kentucky State Farr was partrcnpated rn by our chapter members Our chapter recerved second place rn corn entries Donald Colvrn s sensor holstem calf took a blue rrbbon Bobby Roots was the champion rn the one ear dlvlslon of the corn contest Dever and Dearen were ln the upper placrngs of the corn contest, Wrllram Harden won second place wrth stripped tobacco entry Our dairy ludglng team placed slxteenth at the State Farr They were Donald Colvin, George Dearen and Wrllard Martm Bobby Muller placed rn the top ten an the darry holding contest sas Clty Our chapter collected 2272 pounds of tobacco whrch sold for Sl495 O0 and donated this amount to the March of Dames We had T00 fo partlcrpatron In the Conservation Essay Contest Richard Phrlllps won the Courrer Journal Contest for farmmg achrevement and rs our candldate for drstrrct star farmer Our F F A chapter rnvrted the Home Ec gurls to go along on a skatmg party which resulted In a bug turn out and fun for all National F F A week was observed by wmdow displays radio programs, news paper articles and chapel program grven by our chapter Our drstrrct offrcers and other members gave a TV program over WAVE TV F F A Day contest Farmrng Achievement contest 8 Superrors, 2 excellents and one good Our chapter meetmg team rated superior, Dever was second and superlor In publrc speakmg Read was excellent rn Impromptu speaking Roger Cox was superior wrth hrs smgrng and our Treasurer s book won frrst place rn the clrstrrct Kentucky farmer degree wmners are Phrllrps Dearden, Larry Garnett, Dever Wrllard Martm and Donald Colvin Lemuel Dever rs our candidate for a state offrcer rn the Kentucky Assoclatlon o F F A Our Ag Department won frrst place rn the Cooperatrve Councrl Contest rn thus dlstrlct Thus gave our presrdent, Bobby Muller and one of our advrsors a free trlp to Fort Collms, Colorado to the co op councrl for youth educatron meetmg Last year Lemuel Dever went on thus klncl of trap to Raleigh, North Carolma Lemuel sand he learned lots about how cooperatrves serve the people They are of great value to the farmers and others as well. .
