CLASS HISTORY The time was the first day of school 1945. The smiling face of Mrs. Icy V. Bond was greeted by Jerry Henington and Lynn Medlin, the only two that are still here that started at the first of the year. At Christmas the Gladiola twins, Dale and Gale Perry, were added to the list, followed by Johnny Roper. The SECOND GRADE saw Jimmy Duncan, a boy that could spot a good class a mile off joined our group. He was so tough he didn't have time to study and decided to give Mrs. Guy Casey a try at him. The THIRD GRADE saw a new teacher Mr. Alma Lee Buchanan and one new student, a pnme picker from California named Gary Fisher. We were very sorry to lose Jimmy Duncan who leamed so much the year before that he joined the fourth grade that fall. In the FOURTH GRADE we were joined by Mrs. Toliver the teacher and Jimmy Duncan. Jimmy fi- nally realized his mistake and joined our superior class for good. Johnny Moler, Lockett Wood, Charles Taff, and Anne Price also joined us that year. The FIFTH GRADE we commenced under a teacher we'll never forget, Mrs. Black. Our class was not added to or subtracted from and the list read: Jimmy Duncan, Gary Fisher, Jerry Henington, Lynn Medlin, Johnny Moler, Dale and Gale Perry, Anne Price, Johnnie Roper, Charles Taff, and Lockett Wood. Charles Taff moved to Hagerman for one month during the year, but came running back to stay. The SIXTH GRADE saw Mr. Clary as our teacher. Walter Cardwell and Melba Justis joined the ranks. Anne Price moved to Lovington awhile and everything else remained the same. The next year we really made the big stepl We were in Jrmior High! Our home room teacher was a grand lady named Mrs. Dan Preuitt. We were so important we got to change teachers for some classes. Our other teacher was Mr. Ferrell Caster. We were joined that year by three Texans: Mari Dee Smith from Ft. Stockton, Odessa Vaughn from Post, and Lela Ferrell from Big Springs. The EIGHTH GRADE was great! Junior High football started and our basketball team won second place in the County Junior High Tournament at Hobbs. Mr. Ferrell Caster was our sponsor and we were joined by Freddie Caro, Donnie Mullenax, Anne Price Cback from Lovingtonj and Melba Iustis, who had moved to Albuquerque during the summer and first semester but came back to stay. The next year we finally made the big step - High School! We were joined by Fred Wallis, a hick from Santa Rosa, and Odessa Vaughn who just couldn't stay away. Our Sponsor was Mrs. Cagle. Among the things that happened that year was Freshman Initiation, High School basketball and football. The SOPHOMORE YEAR saw three new members join the forces, an 'Oakie' named Jerry Richardson from Poteau, Oklahoma: a syrup-soppin' Texan from Ralls, Texas, named Melessia Pior and a good kid from New Mexico, Sharon Green from Santa Fe. Mr. Brinker was our sponsor that year. In our JUNIOR YEAR things really started popping. We were joined by Penny Fortfa spy from Lov- ington, who might have given us a lot of trouble if Jimmy Duncan hadn't come into the picturej. We were joined also by Betty Corbitt from Hobbs, originally from Elida, and Joy Maines from Crane, Texas, and Joyce Rose from Levelland, Texas. Our Sponsors were Mr. Wise and Miss Jones. Big events of the year were 'The Junior Play' and 'The Junior and Senior Prom.' This was also the year that most of us began to realize we were not so anxious to get out of school as we thought. Our SENIOR YEAR was big and full-of activities. We were joined by Laruth Lynn and Jerrel Dean Kiker from Lovington, fthey just couldn't stand the smell down therej and Sue Williams from Roswell. We were very sorry to lose Mari Dee Smith at the semester who just didn 't need 12 years to finish High School, and went on to College. Ronnie Shafer moved back to his old stomping grounds, Muleshoe, Texas. He fought it all the way and had to leave anyway. Mr. Brinker joined us as sponsor again and the number was complete. As for big events, there were plenty of them - climaxed by graduation, Sen- ior Trip and Play, Prom, and State Championship in Football.
