Fleenlistments, refueling, physical fitness, replen- ishments, rest and recreation. Just a few things that can never be taken for granted. These most important evolutions allowed TATTNALL to perform her tasks while deployed. During each and every underway replenishment, whether it be rigging a fuel line from the USS MERRIMACK in four weather, or receiving provisions in the middle of the night, TATTNALL'S crew always performed their duties proudly and professionally to live up to the Destroyer Squadron 12 motto worn on the ship's port side, We Are Ready Now . lf not for the men of lean, mean number 19 , TATTNALL'S goals and duties may not have been achieved. Our loved ones were home in the states while we were off the coast of Beirut, Lebanon, and Christmas appeared far from joyous. Then the word was out! Bob Hope and friends were in the area performing USO shows for the American contingent of Multinational Peacekeeping Forces. We were soon in Haifa, Israel for the holdiays, and everyone wanted to see the king and his royal court. Some of us who were lucky enough to go, crammed our bodies into liberty boats from the aircraft carriers USS INDEPENDANCE. As we skimmed through the mildly turbulent Israeli harbor waters, toward the floating city, we all tried to imagine the extravaganza that awaited us. 25 lvlore l3oaT DeTails'? . . . It appeared to be the happiest feeling ever to encounter. We sailed for five long and arduous months covering many a ocean's miles, stopping in the ports of Haifa, Israel, Recife and Salvador, Brazil, Rota, Spain, Naples, Italy and the island of the Azores. True, much of the time was spent off the coast of Beirut, Lebanon as a part of the multinational peacekeeping force in support of the U.S. Marines. The guns blasted away and we defended our nation's interests. And now it was time to return to the loved ones awaiting our return in sunny Florida. 1 li' 1 C' -. , PM T -vw 'I WJYKPU A., Bm? Masker if Focus on First Division First Division plays one of the most important roles in the general operating functions of the ship. Among the responsibilities required of the personnel in the division are, rigging underway replenishment stations, standing bridge and lookout watches, maintenance of the main deck and boats, and linehandling when getting underway and coming into port. Our impression to the general public as well as our shipmates makes us proud to say We are proud to serve on TATTNALL. Without the help of the Boatswains mates, TATTNALL might not operate as smoothly as she does. Therefore, First Division is the first in providing good appearance to an outstanding guided-missile destroyer as is the TATTNALL. DS1 D. Dernbach HT2 R. Walker DS1 W. Cottrell QM1 R. J.
