The incomparable beauties of the whole island have made it known throughout the world as the Island ot Light, the Golden Isle, and the Pearl ofthe Med- iterranean. Palma was founded in 123 B.C. as a settlement ot Roman and Iberian colonists. It grew rapidly when James I ofjngland, captured the island and brought the whole group under his rule.
