The team looks on helplessly as their teammates go down in defeat. 1969 marked the first time that the Tates Creek Commodores had been defeated by rival Lafayette in foot ball. ln a hard-fought contest, the Commodores sur- passed the Generals in every department except the score. TC scored their first touchdown of the season and piled up 227 yards in rushing, but to no avail. Ben Bransom scored the six points. Things perked up for the Commodores as they slid past Clark County by a score of 15-7. Bill Silliman scored a touchdown on a five-yard run and the next TD with the same keeper play. The next game was even better as TC trounced Jessamine County 47-O. Touch- downs were scored by Bransom, Silliman, Emanuel Watson, and Danny Philpot. The game with Bryan Station was TC's hardest fight. The Defenders employed a successful ground game with All-Stater Frank Lemaster leading the way with 200 of the 326 yard total. Bryan Station scored after poor coverage of a TC puntg then the Commodores fought back with a '71-yard drive for a touchdown. But the Bryan Station ground attack was good for another score. The Defenders scored again in the third quarter after a pass interception. TC got the ball and Bransom scored from the one-yard line to make the score 21-12 with 9:56 remaining in the game. A try for a two-point conversion failed giving the ball to Bryan Station. Lemaster scored with six minutes on the clock to make the final score 28-14. 37
