Our Inspiration At first we did not see our treasure: Our thoughts were merely of sweet pleasure. We trod these halls with little care Of what might lie beyond the stair. We danced, we laughed, we sang, we played; And by our tasks were not dismayed. Could we but have seen the way That hourly beckoned day by day! We were sternly shown the way. That life was more than merely play. That we had duties to perform.
