Kappa Adds New Campus Events KAPPA beau John Farley escorts Taurus sweetheart Kathy Klint. Kappa repeated several campus activities this year and introduced four new ones, The girls service sorority planned competition and provided prizes for the tradi- tional Sadie Hawkins Day, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the Ugly-Man-on-Campus Contest - a fund raising proiect. New activities were a Slave Sale, Kappa Karols, Kappa Kite Flight, and a Christmas Presentation. On the first service proiect, they made Halloween puppets and puzzles for children at Peter Smith Hospital. Other projects included collecting food for needy families for Thanksgiving by sponsoring a dance with a can of food as the admission price, collecting and sending cards and books to Vietnam, tutoring under- privileged children, and taking orphans to the zoo. New members and their dates were honored with a hay-ride and a Wiener roast in the fall, and pledges were treated to a Hooty Hunt in the spring. Kappa officers for the year were Sally Brown, presi- dent, Dreda Adkins, vice-president, Karen Hoell, secre- tary, Kathy Klint, treasurer, Tanya Weatherly, parlia- rnentarian, Cheri Mitchell, historian, Gere Knox, sergeant- at-arms, Falah Benton, chaplain, Trudy Herring, pledge captain, Cheri Mitchell, ICC representative, Mrs. Betty Clark, sponsor. APO Recognizes Popular Singer -ALJ VJ' S R .r' C .. I N t r 'ferry 44 APO sweetheart Sydney Michael. 1? The trail of Alpha Phi Omega services extended to Peter Smith Hospital, and the roster included Trini Lopez. The group gave Lopez an honorary membership while he was serving as co-master of ceremonies at the Miss Teenage America Pageant and they were ushering at the new convention center. Members also ushered for Rowan and Martin's Comedy Concert' at the new center. Less glamorous assignments included untangling abundant snarled traf- fic jams at the beginning of school and policing all Campus dances and elections, At Christmas Bill Sweeney alias Santa Claus de- livered gifts from the club which included candy and toys to the childrens ward of Peter Smith Hospital. Magor activities included spring and fall camp-outs at Camp Le Roy, ci beard-growing contest, a St. Patriclcs Day dance, a basketball game, and a pool tournament. Their sweetheart Sydney Michael was chosen from twenty-five candidates interviewed by all members. Officers receiving special recognition at their Award Banquet in April were Joe Clegg, president, Larry Sweeney, vice president, Chuck Luke, secretary-treasurer, Charles l-lopp, ICC representative, Carroll Commons, Don Richard, and Sheldon Mapel, sponsors, 4 , W r 14. r ii X.
