Floral Sqmbols Help Chronicle Fleeting Year This was a year of flowers. Fragile petals of affirmation threatened the impetus of mechanized political conventions, and iaunty floral symbols shamed the demogoguery of zealots battering the oppressed with the shaft ofthe flag. Vibrant blossoms pleaded for peace in a world surging toward annihilation. Floral tributes heralded a triumphant return from the moon. The abortive dream of justice and goodwill faded with the floral symbols and simple blossoms while the defeat of hunger and disease eclipsed the victory over space. Yet around the world the whispered loveliness of flowers proclaims eternal hope, Before the last bricks were plastered in 7967, landscape artists and gardeners began converting the 23 buildings into a campus. Shrubbery and flowers unite the eight clusters of buildings, each courtyard having its own planting design, Now 350 trees overlook the walks and grass.
