Dance Group Sets Livelq Pace From Col4es and Combo' on the patio at activity period to a Christmas torrnal, the Dance Committee moved the feet ot South Campus students. Headed by Patricia Callaway, the Dance Committee planned a major monthly dance as well as morning casual dances, The committees invitation ot Shall We Dance? began in September with the western flavor of the How- dy Dance, Robert Frost and Nellie Kyser were crowned Howdy King and Queen at the dance, Other dances inf cluded a Halloween Hop, a Turley Trot, ci Christmas formal, ci Valentine dance, a casual March dance to an- nounce Mr, and Miss TCJC and school Favorites, ci Sadie Hawkins Day dance, and ci Casino Affair dance in May Behind the scenes ot all the dances were the Dance Committees planning and worls The committee Selected bands for the dances, bringing such groups as the Fresh Airf Jim Jones and The Chaunteysf' the Red Hearts, and The Soul Purpose to the affairs, Members ot the committee included Chuck Shet- tielcl, Glenda Oliver, Sherry Newman, Deborah McAdoo, Shirley Thomas and Delilah Durst. f A X fy 'XXX ' ,g,.,,7 .-h-.V- V ,gd . Students Select Campus Performers The heat went on , on , , on around TCJC thanks to the Campus Entertainment Committee, Charged with bringing the world of show biz to the South Campus, the Cornrnittee succeeded with astonishing regularity, The 'Up With People show on the campus patio early in the fall started the Campus Entertainment Conw- nwittee s fall program off with ci stancling ovation lt also initiaterl a love affair between the patiiotic singing group front fifteen countries and TCJC students. Opening a coffee house series of follf singers for the cainpus was the biggest challenge that faced the enter- tainment'oriented contrnittee, By joining a circuit of four other Texas schools, TCJC brought five polished acts to the carnpus for weelc long runs in the South Campus' own coffee house setting. Paun McKinnon, foll-1-rocl-' artist, was the first coffee house attraction Keith Sylfes and Martin Golfarh ap- pearerl next, followed by TCJC's own folk singer Dusty Blues closing the fall runs, The spring sernester brought David ancl Dan, Mary Ellen Smith, The Radiant Set, The Changing Tydef' and Brian Carney. ,li ily se I' W si I in QQ David and Dan, one of the many acts brought to campus via the Coffee House circuit. .N Xftbiq-saw . .. .. Commission Keeps Polls Honest l L APO MEMBERS help students cast their ballots in one of the many school elections. As Dollcis and the IBM men found out in the l968 Presidenticil Election, counting ballots is done best by humons At TCJC, the iob was embodied in the all humcin Election Commission, Operating under the constitutionol by-laws ot the SGA, the Election Commission was entrusted with the duties ot overseeing bcillot boxes at elections, Counting votes, ond verifying thot the elections were conducted tciiily cincl honestly. Seven students composed the committee, including ci choirmcin oppointed by SGA. The Election Commission hacl two chairmen during the 1968-69 school year. Fall chciirmcin vvcis Norman Bcirnes and spring chairman, Kcithy Klint. Other commission members included Bill Allen, Carol Mclielvey, Greg Plapp, Terry Wilemon, and Regina! Young, The EleCtiOn Commission supervised such elections os SGA officers ond senotors, Mr, and Miss TCJC and class tcivorites and beauties, APO members Worked with the commission in checking student ID's and seeing that someone vvos cilvvays present at the ballot boxes.
