F. L. STEWAR1' Six years ago in September, a group of big- eyed twelve-year olds piled into the first car ol the Tarentum High School Choo-Choo. Be- wildermcnt and excitement were the order of the day, but as the train bumped onward they became regular old-hands at school life. They yelled their heads off at pep meetings, roared at Nlr. Tipp's tall tales, trainped on each other's feet at Mrs. Cestner's dance club, and dutifully learned their verbs in Miss Kelly's English Class. XVhen it came time to change cars, these students were a year older and oh, so much wiser. Hlhy, it seemed they actually towered over the little seventh grad- ers, but they weren't above shedding a few tears at Miss Kline's farewell party. They got a taste of algebra in Miss YVilson's arithmetic class and declared that 'fEvangeline was just too mushy to take. But Room ll's assembly program, The Lazy Family, coached by Mr. XVeber, was to eyeryone's liking. Then their dreams came true and they were Freshmen! Latin had everyone chanting porto, portas, portat, and Mr. Shakespeare had them all wondering, XVhat is so rare as a day in june? The ninth grade party with its night club atmosphere really made everyone feel so grown up. The hustle and bustle of climbing aboard the Senior-High Train was indicative of the hustle and bustle that was to carry the class of '50 through the next three years. For some students the train almost jumped the track when it encountered plane geometry, but with Mr. Gargaro's assistance, all journeyed safely through to Move Up Day and all its glamour. X'Vhen they took the seats left empty by the juniors, they were already planning ahead for the next year. Selling Christmas candy, pencils, Easter eggs, and stationery, and learning to parlez-vous and type filled all their cars. The wonderful and S at Kennywood was worth all the work even though there were a few green faces from too many rides on the Hurricane All at once they were Seniors and began to travel down the last mile of their high school journey. Chemistry and solid, shorthand and P. of D., Shakespeare and French all whizzed by in a feverish rush of activity. And how hard they all worked selling Christmas cards and meeting Quippus deadlines. Suddenly they were pulling into the station with the Senior Class party, Move-Up Day, Class Night, Bacca- laureate, and the end of the road, Commence- ment. Everyone waved goodbye to the Choo- Choo and to each other at the Senior Prom, but each faced the future with confidence. The class of '50 had journeyed through six years with flying colors, and such wonderful people would certainly bring new honors upon themselves and old T. H. S.
