Glass J oem REALIZATION Our trip through the land of knowledge is almost done. The prize we sought for is won. And while we wait for it with eager faces; Inside T. H. S. walls we take our places. On through this year and those behind, We forgot our worries with a cheerful mind. We did our work and mixed it with pleasure. Our gaiety cup overflowed with the measure. Our daydreams ebbed away and things became clear; We heard the word success in our ear. Suddenly we awoke and began to realize, How fast our given time flies. Our work and hopes were not in vain, And yet we know just these remain, But be our fortune great or small, We ' ll continue to fight and forget our fall. When the future gates are opened wide, We ' ll just take things in our stride. And if we look forward we won ' t be alone. For the future is ours, ours to own! And so underclassmen, never give in. Fight the fight and you ' ll surely win. With the help of those you love, Success will shine bright as the sun above. Fayette Harrell Class Poet

GJass Jfi ' s ory We entered high school after eight years of hard work and great anticipation. We entered the bank of promise with GRADUATION as our sole aim. We became Freshmen in 1952. Mrs. Penelope Jones, Mr. J. B. Wolfe and Mr. Worth Wicker were our faculty advisors. To direct us on the first lap of our journey, we chose as president, Joan Turner; vice president, Clark Raper; secre- tary, Joyce Lassiter; treasurer, J. K. Riggs. Our marshals were Joan Turner and Eddie B. Fowlkes. From shy, timid Freshmen, we became Sophomores. The main highlight of the year was the Halloween Carnival. We were efficiently guided by Mrs. Rena Blackburn and Mrs. Thelma Morse. Our officers were: president, Lorraine Mayo; vice president, Aubrey Davis; secretary, Juliana Evans. Joan and Eddie B. were marshals again. We were really beginning to feel important! We were Juniors! Miss Eleanor White and Mr. Gilbert Watkins were our advisors. Our officers were: president, Leslie Rucker; vice president, Marilyn Mayo; secretary, Peggy Roberson; treasurer, Juliana Evans. This was the year we had been looking forward to for a long time. We sponsored the Junior -Senior banquet and dance. Our theme was In a Chinese Garden. We sold magazines and sponsored dances to make money. We pre- sented the Junior play, Brother Goose, which supplemented our class treasury. Another added pleasure was our enjoyable trip to Williamsburg. Seventeen mem- bers of our class had the honor of being tapped into the Beta Club. Joan Turner and Aubrey Davis, along with Eddie B. Fowlkes as chief, were chosen marshals. Now the day is here! We are Seniors. Mrs. F. W. Hobbs, Jr. and Mr. L. J. Bauer are our competent advisors. Steve Hoard as president; Eddie B. Fowlkes as vice president; Juliana Evans, treasurer; and Judith Everett, secretary were elected class officers. Marilyn Mayo was chosen editor-in-chief of the annual. We pre- sented the Senior play, You ' re Young Only Twice, which was a great success. The highlight of this, our Senior Year, will be the Junior Senior Banquet, given in our honor by the underclassmen. We have reached our goal, set twelve years ago. We are finishing - no, we are commencing. Ruth Sutton Historian
