Ieh Statue of Louis XIV in the courtyard ot the Palace of Versailles. Originally the scene of a hunting lodge for Louis XIII, Versailles was enlarged and beautifled by Louis XIV, and made the seat oflthe French govern- I ment. This lasted until 1789 when the re- volutionists shifted the capital back to Paris. Hght Place de la Concorde, laid out during the reign of Louis XV, is marked by an Egyptian 'obelisk Cright centerl.
