A grade and high school intramural athletic program was inaugurated this year under the direction of Mr. McKee, Danny Keily and Floyd Ashburger. A brief summary of the various activities follows: GRADE TOUCH FOOTBALL---The Tigers and the Cubs outdistanced the other teams in the battle for the championship. The Cubs captured first place with 11 wins and one loss. The running and passing of Larry Woodwick were too much for the other teams. The Tigers won 10 and lost Z games to finish second, The Red Sox took third, the Browns fourth and the Braves, who failed to win a game, last. GRADE SOFTBALL---Twelve rather easy wins gave the Wildcats the title in this league. The real battle occurred in the fight for the other four places. A one game margin gave the Sunnysides second place over the Meatballs. The Jugheads finished fourth and the Cottontails last. GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL A record of four wins and one loss gave the Pirates the championship Second place went to the Indians while the pre season favorites the Red Sox finished third In a three game series between a country school coached by Mr Izler and a picked Tappen grade team the Tappen team was victorious two games to one GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL The Champs won the championship appropriately enough with five wins and two losses The Globetrotters were nipped by the Tigers for second place Most of the games in this league were real thrillers especially the two double over time contests HIGH SCHOOL TOUCH FOOTBALL Finishing the season with five straight victories the Yankees assured themselves of a tie with the fast starting Giants for the title I the play off which followed the Yankees scored two lop sided victories to win the championship Despite the fine beginning the Indians soon dropped out of contention while the last place Dodgers never did get started HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL In a seven game series the team captainecl by Jean Bodvig defeated the team captained by Levone Koestler Al of the games were high scoring affairs with typical scores being somewhat as follows 16 to 10 19 to 6 and 14 to 12 Janice Blackmore was the umpire ano as a result she lost most of her friends' GRADE BOYS TRACK There are no pictures of these teams Each team was composed of three fifth or sixth gr ders and three seventh or eighth graders In the big meet at the end of the year Larry Woodw1ck's team scored an easy victory while Darold Lang s team barely edged Leonard Everding S team and Ervin Z1mmer's team for the second 5 81 6 Grades Eugene Eugene Eugene Eugene Mel in Eugene Helden Heiden Heiden Heiden Lang Helden SHOT PUT DISCUS HIGH JUMP BROAD JUMP 400 Yard Dash 100 Yard Dash 3r- 7 8: 8 Grades Ervin Zimmer Alfred Polasky Alfred Polasky Alfred Polasky Ervin Zimmer Ervin Zimmer . . l . y . - .
