TANTASQUA SCHOLARS Martin Allen Joanne Normandin With this edition of the TANTASQUAN a new and vitally important aspect of school life is to be recognized. Through the years the records of the various groups, whether social, athletic or academic have been offered for your acceptance and adulation. We, the staff, have long felt that superior individual academic achieve- ment should not go unnoticed in any publication which attempts to record a particular school year. The yearbook staff feels that these students who have considered academic excellence the raison d'etre for the high school experience, and have performed at a consistently high level in these areas, should at least be accorded the same exposure as some of their fellow students. And this is as it should be, if we keep in mind the primary function of any school, no matter its emphasis. Schools are created to further the learning experience of all those who pass through its portals. To what degree this opportunity is utilized is as divergent as the number of people who attend schools. It is those individuals who take full advantage of this precious opportunity and who wrest from this experience what it has to offer that we honor here. The two students depicted on this page and honored in these words are merely representative of the many who have achieved academically in this school, in this year. They were chosen by the staff using the criteria of class rank exclusively. Obviously this cannot be the definitive method of recognition, but in the interest of economy and equality, we have chosen one boy and girl to represent all of you Tantasqua scholars. We do, therefore, congratulate these people and pay homage to their very significant academic success. For consistent achievement in any area of human endeavor is to be respected; but in the field of human knowledge it is also to be most highly esteemed. Again, congratulations and felicitations to you alll
