28 We began together ... ... Ushered out of grammar school unknowing and insecure, we took our first step into the daily routine of everyday high school life. In the fall of September, 1972, we encountered many hurdles which would obstruct the paths that our lives would take. While Freshman, each day seemed a new and frightening adventure we tackled schedules, joined activities and looked for faces that were few and far between. From the ringing of the first bell in the morning until dismissal in the afternoon, we were unconcerned with anything around us. Each day we encountered and each step we took to form a common bond, finally led to the beginning of the class of 1978. As we concerned ourselves with gaining a good reputation, little did we realize how fast each day slipped by. Before we noticed, our Freshman year had:come to a close and with the heat of summer beginning to beat upon our brows, we eagerly left school for vacation feeling reassured of our place as upperclassmen when we returned. Coming back that fall, no longer the lowly Freshman of one year earlier, we as Sophomores, began our battle upward. Class rings were the first sign of our unity and pride. A healthy addition of Sophomore members assisted football and basketball teams, while others helped to prepare for the 2 years left of our high school years. To be special was our goal; to achieve this was our future. We bid goodbye and goodluck to graduating Seniors, secure in the knowledge that our next year would display further the special kind of closeness which had made our class unique. Summer days passed quickly with the anticipation of our eagerly awaited Junior year. Once again as Tantasqua’s walls echoed the goodbyes of departing Seniors we were hit with the realization that the road we had walked was bringing us towards our destination, Senior Year. Bittersweet summer followed. Then with a September morning came the reality that soon we would be passing from Tantasqua forever. We were on top, no longer afraid or insecure. This was our year to stand out and be counted, and stand out we did! Suddenly, we became a class full of question. Did you pay your class dues? Are you going on the class trip? Who are you taking to the Prom? And once again, we began the chore of fund raising, one final time. As the answers to the questions unfolded, so did our last glorious year together. In many ways we were close, and in as many ways we were far apart. The inevitable march to Commencement Day saw old friendships die and others born; romances flared and were snuffed out; new decisions made now would influence us forever. We have finally reached our destination. Standing at the end of the road, we will scatter in a hundred different directions seeking our own paths in life. Yet, no matter how far we travel apart, we are held together by one very special bond ... . We began together. written by Sandy Walthers You savage you, that was Beethovens’ Sth! I don’t believe I wrote that on the table! You fell off the what?! The BUS'!!' No your kidding?, Not really?, Fried Earth- worms?! And as my feelings flow through this paint brush ... “last night was one of those nights!”
