Conscious of its role in expanding the horizons of the stu- dent’s world through exposure to all of the social sciences, the Department introduced the Harvard Social Studies Proj- ect into its curriculum. This series, using the inductive ap- proach, explores fifteen major issues faced by our nation today. Among the problems studied are the Negro’s View of America, and Community Change. The Fo reign department is continuing to expand its role by extending the study of Spanish to the Junior High level, and by providing an elective system of courses in Grades 10 through 12, thereby doubling the number of offerings. These new courses will cover La ngu ages the complete range of grammar, conversation, literature, and cultural courses in both modern and classical languages. 30
