Oh, all the money that ere I’ve spent I’ve spent it in good company, And all the harm that ere I’ve done Alas it was to none but me And all I’ve done for want of wit To memory now | can’t recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all. Oh, all the comr ades that ere I’ve had Are sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that ere I’ve had Would wish me one more day to stay. But since it falls unto my lot That | should rise and you should not | will gently rise and softly call, Good night and joy be with you all. “The Parting Glass’”’ Traditional Contents Faculty... 14 Seniors. . . 38 Underclassmen . . . 66 Activities . . . 96 Sports ... 116 Advertisements . . . 144 te TANTASQUAN 1967 Tantasqua Regional High School Sturbridge, Massachusetts. deo: ‘ ‘ i — “ % = ” Cal P . sa — % ss “ . ae Sam cc grey ad ee : - See ae ee nm . eas - - % : . Watson Superintendent Lifelong scholar and teacher, Robert M. Hutchins, once said that the best preparation we can provide youth could be summed up in four words: “Get ready for anything.”’ The longer one lives, the more appreciative he becomes of the profundi- ty of those simple words. The only thing we can predict with considerable confidence in a change- able world is change itself. How effectively you meet change and life’s uncertainties will be to some extent a test of the worth of what you have learned. And you will have learned your lessons well if you can apply origi- nality, imagination, creativeness, intelligence and wisdom to the multi- tude of human problems you will encounter. | wish for each of you a long and fruitful life. 16 Roland W. Wilson Principal Recent developments in education leave little doubt that the education of the future will by startling. Among the recent trends in education is the spectacular advances in the storing of information for the use of students and educ ators alike. Some writers feel that the body of knowl- edge will be amassed on magnetic tape and will be presented to us at our command. Such developments present the challenge of change to Students and teachers alike. We must adapt and change to meet the ever pressing demands of the education of the future. 17 Edward B. One of the most exciting class events this year was receiving our class rings. They will always be a reminder of the great times at Tantasqua. As our third year goes by, we begin to look to the future; the first Junior-Senior Prom at Tantasqua will be in May, and many of us are beginning to prepare for college exams and our last year at Tantasqua. 68 . Our activities for the year began with a class meeting at which the mas- cot and skit for Color Day was discussed. Both proved to be a success. Our next activity included our class dance. A title for the dance was discussed and Penny Lane was the name decided upon. Also the dance had the distinction of a band imported from Springfield, the Curries. All in all the year can be said to have been a pleasant one with hopes of better ones to follow. 74 AD N. Adam S. Augusto B. Anair R. Armstrong L. Asselin R. Barnes G. Beeman J. Beeman N. Belanger B. A meeting held between the class officers and advisors as- sured a very promising future. We had our first class meeting January 20. The president discussed the tradi- tion of Color Night and we also discussed the class dance. We assigned special committees to help make our dance a success. Our first problem was how to acquire some money for our treasury. This was quickly settled by the collection of dues. We had a large response to this. We hope that our future high school years are as enjoyable as this one has been. 80 G. Afton, M. Asselin R. Asselin . Baker . Bansfield . Barnes . Barr . Barrett . Barry DoNOQOumao Barthelette . Student Council The Student Council performs many services to the general student body. When other organizations in the school need uniforms or equipment, the Student Council loans them the money. The Council makes money by sponsoring the sock hops after the basketball games and selling food during football games. They also run buses to away foot- ball games and sponsor the annual Color Night. The winner of Color Night re- ceives thirty-five dollars to add to their class treasury. 98 N. Corriveau; |. Conoyer; L. Pion; J. Miller; J. Banwell; N. Wright; D. Martin; D. Day; C. Turner; J. Several concerts and guest appearances made it pos- sible to complete a year of musical success. 106 ROW 1: Mr. Drifmeyer, J. Lucier, J. Norton, C. Gilman, P. An- C. Rossman, M. LaPete, P. Smith, R. Gog- Football The football team, led by Coach Farland and assisted by Coaches Allen and Tremblay, posted a frustrating 4-5 loss in their first match with Westboro. This loss fell short of showing their quality but anyone seeing the game, realized their determination, drive and ability. With only 30 seconds left, and the team on the Westboro. two yard line, the team’s hopes for victory were destroyed by a fumble. The highly favored Athol team scored 15 points early in the first period of play, but the determin- ed green and gold rallied behind Co-Capt. Ted Wells and tackle Jim Woodward. The Red Raiders were shut out for the remainder of the game while the Warriors scored three times to capture their first victory over Athol. In the running of Putnam, led by Kim Shumate, Al Dhembe, and Geoff Earls, the Warriors crushed the Connecticut visitors. Emil Pauli, Mike Parzyche, Roly Armstrong, and Rick Brogan were outstanding in the line. 122 Following a quick grab of 18 points by Doherty, the Tantasqua defense completely dominated the second half. The defense, led by Ted Wells, held the Hilanders to minus yardage in the second half. Glenn Biron completed a record five touchdown passes as the Warriors staged a tremendous offensive push against Auburn! Ted Wells led the way with the first six points; Al Dnembe and Kim Shumate followed with three and two Touchdowns respectively. With the offense still in high gear, the team finished the season with a victory that featured the four touchdown performances of Kim Shu- mate. This senior led all area scorers with a total of 82 points. Joining him in their final game for the green and gold were Ted Wells, Emil Pauli, Geoff Earls, Rich Brogan, Mike Parzyche, and Dennis Naylor. This 1966 season pushed the unde- feated string to 51 straight over three consecu- tive years. It also represented the work and de- sire that the team, Coach Steensen, and tri-captains Bob Sandole, Glen Terry, and Jerry Chase put forward throughout the entire season. The records fell as Bob Sandole led the team to victory. He set new records for five courses, in- cluding a record time of 11:58 for the Knights of Columbus race and the reservation course record of 11:37. Despite leg injuries late in the season, he went on to capture the Class-D championship. Our team was by no means a one man show. No 128 team placed more than one man in the top five places in any of our dual meets. United team ac- tion also led to the League championship, the re- turn of the Western Mass. title to Tantasqua after a two year absence, and a 7th team place out of 37 teams in the class D of the state Meet. Seniors, Bob Sandole, Glenn Terry, Jerry Chase, and Dennis Solomon, will be missing next year, but, the hard work and motivation and excellent running of the Juniors Bob Wiles, Bob Ruggles, Randy Buzzle: of Sophomores, Dan Haney, Dave Kuzlowski, and John Rulli; and Freshman, Wayne Wood and Richard Asselin, leaves no room for concern. Also this season led the Warriors back into competition in the Tri- Community Basketball Tournament in which Tantasqua took Third place. Se- niors Ted Wells, Rick Brogan, Captain Richard Tefft, Pete Bourdeau and Geoff Earls will be leaving the squad, but bright prospects among the juniors and sophomores permit us to look forward to a successful 67-68 season 131 Stop! The climax of the entire season came when the Warriors won the Class B title of the District II] meet with 34 points, outscoring Algonquin, Shrewsbury, Com- merce, and several other teams. Our near sweep in the two mile run, when placed upon the foundation of points gathered from the mile, javelin, discus and shot-put, decided the meet. The South Central Track Conference must rank alongside the District Ill meet in excitement and tension. A very unusual sit uation resulted when we tied for first place with David Prouty, the green and gold relay team snatched the team from defeat with its spectacular showing of speed and coordination. The whole team, led by Co-Captains, Dave Fuller, and Ed Grudzien, and guided by Coaches Steensen and Crockett were really a unified body. 136 Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Team Record 85 Webster Academy 76 Leicester 105 Southbridge Bl East Longmeadow 57, Oxford 59 N. The Tantasqua baseball team entered the '66 season as defending league champions, but our team finally lost the bitterly fought battle for the title, that had been held for six times since 1956. Everything considered, however, the baseball Warriors had a successful season. The team totaled a record of eight wins and six losses, not including the War- riors massacre of the alumni. The Junior Varsity squad also racked up an im- pressive record of three victories and two defeats. Departing seniors were Tom Martin, John Mocko, Scott Gardner, Gene Stone, Bob Sweitzer, Mike Bowden, and Tim Desmond, who won the Second Annual Stuart Memorial award, in addition to being captain of the '66 team. The '67 team, under captain Ed Jette looks forward to another grueling season, but in a new league. $39 Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua Tantasqua — OMOWNFAWAOWNAN SEN 1 1966—Baseball Varsity Record Barre Warren North Brookfield Charlton Marianhill Bartlett Sutton Oxford Douglas Barre Warren Southbridge North Brookfield David Prouty Alumni Jack Mocko at bat 2 4 1 8 5 4 0) 8 6 4 O 5) 4 2 S) It's easier with my eyes shut 140 | can’t bear to look Hope the photographer moves. “Fore,” don’t you mean ‘‘Ball’’ 141 BILL SWIACKI REAL ESTATE COMPANY — Frere = 22 Main Street Southbridge, Mass. 764-4391 ...
