Their athletic and general activities have made the name Tantasqua known and respected throughout the state. Students have made most of the accomplishments for THS. Today, the thought of a teenager disturbs the older generation. However, we are tomorrow’s adults and are certainly capable of handling the demands placed upon us by unfavorable conditions overseas and here at home. Today’s teenager is not the “best” that society claims him to be. He is, in most cases, understanding and willing to give a little of himself in order to better the world in which he lives. It terminates your formal public education and casts you in the role of adult. Some of you will begin your life’s work immediately while others will postpone this condition until after further schooling. Your ultimate occupation will be less important than your attitude toward your work. For we need excellence in all walks of life. Indeed, the survival of a free society depends upon the quality of all its citizens. Secretary Gradner wrote, “In a free society, every man lives for himself but also lives for his society.” Therefore, take pride in doing a good job. Your rewards will be personal contentment, self-respect, dignity and satisfaction in contributing to the common good. 18 ROLAND W. WILSON PRINCIPAL THE world today surrounds us with conflicting pressures, loyalties and values. We can expect the world of tomorrow to be equally confusing un- less education helps individuals acquire increased understanding of the world in which we live. Within the next two decades, young people will probably experience a world marked by ideological competition, increased leisure caused by auto- mation, world-wide communication networks and power struggles among new and old nations. The student of tomorrow will be better informed about world events but will probably have to wait longer to take his place in society. Therefore, educational preparation must be the best possible and must con- stantly change to meet the needs of tomorrow. le, ee AMSA DARPA eh EDWARD B. BZDULA ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FRANCIS J. RUSSO VOCATIONAL DIRECTOR The Vocational School opened September 8, 1965 for its second year of operation. The aim of the school is to prepare students for profitable employment. The Vocational School offers the following trades: Machine Shop, Metal Fabrication and Welding; Carpentry and Millwork; and Machine Drafting. The curriculum in- cludes Shop, Related Math, Science, Blueprint Reading and Drawing, for the partic- ular trade, also academic subjects. Each course extends over four years. The student, when he graduates, will receive a high school dip loma and a vocational certificate in his trade. To be admitted to our Vocational School, an applicant must be fourteen years of age and or completed the eighth grade. He should have the definite desire to pursue his trade, and have the ability to profit by the instruction offered. Presently our teaching staff consists of seven full time Vocational teachers. With the addition of some equipment and teachers, we will be able, in the next few years, to instruct approximately 160 students. When our students graduate, they will start their working careers as tradesmen, and be on their way to becoming good citizens. 36 MRS. LOVE LEONARD BEAULIEU NORMAN HALLS WILLIAM MESSENHEIMER Voc. We look now not to the past but to the bright prospects of a senior year and of an unknown but hopeful future. For a moment, the past is reflected in the spirit of accomplishments, successful class dances, suspense-filled color nights and reaches its climax in remembrance of all three years in the presentation of class rings. In the present, the satisfaction of another class dance, and a prosperous junior prom hold us in the full tide of our junior year. Now to the future: in our terminating year we prepare for varied occupations so that we may take responsible positions in the world. During our final fling at T. H. S., studies come first, but the joy of being an upper- classman will possess all of us. A Senier Prom will highlight our last year and gradu- ation will add color to our last day of a great high school career. 74 Ambach, B. Bacon, P. Barber, M. JUNIORS Bliss, S. Bourdeau, P. Bozyk, J. With the careful planning of the officers and members of the dance committee, the Sophomore Class Dance was very successful. The entire class has that night to look back upon with pride. The Class of ’68 has its entire Sophomore year of 1965-1966 to look back upon; to profit from its success and learn from its mistakes. The year has been a great experience for all members. It has enriched their minds, hearts, and bodies; and has given them a year of happiness and experience that will profit them always. 78 SOPHOMORES Anders, N. Bacon, S. Banwell, W. Barry, R. Our first responsibility as a class, was to elect re- liable people to the various class positions. This, as it has been shown, was done successfully. Our next step was to start collecting class dues. We all thought it would be too much for our treasurer to collect at once, so we each took one homeroom to the Vice-President’s two. The problem of col- lecting dues was solved. We had our first class meeting on December 15. We discussed the traditional Color Night and Class Dance. The dance itself was a great success. As the year goes by, we can look back on a successful year. 84 FRESHMEN Adam, N. Adams, W. Anair, B. Armstrong, R. Asselin, L. Agusto, S. Beeman, G. Beeman, J. Belanger, N. Bennett, B. Bennett, R. San- STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council performs many services to the general student body. When other organizations in the school need uniforms or equipment, the Student Council loans them the money. The Council makes money by sponsoring the sock hops after the basketball games and selling food during football games. They also run buses to away football games and sponsor the annual Color Night. The winner of Color Night receives twenty-five dollars to add to their class treasury. 102 Little does he know I put a bomb under his desk. Gau- FUTURE NURSES Arlene Rasys, President Denise LaSonde, Vice-President Janice McCue, Treasurer Judy Ciprari, Secretary Shirley Gray, Advisor The Future Nurses Club has been quite busy the past two years. Last year they had a food sale and car wash which netted nearly one hundred dollars for their schol- arship fund. This year the club has started “Operation Crash Helmet”. This project is for the young children at Monson State Hospital. It is a long term as well as worthwhile project. Mrs. Corwin, a member of the faculty, has been devoting her time in help- ing the club with their “Helmet” project. The club does other things, too. They visit area hospitals to help them decide if nursing is what they really want in life. They have also had many speakers from area hospitals and the Armed Forces. The National Foundation of the March of Dimes sponsored a birth defects seminar at Sargeant College last year. Six members of the club attended the seminar. It proved to be interesting as well as educational for the girls. Every May the club presents a play about health to the student body. The Future Nurses Club has proven to be one of the most successful clubs at T.H.S. The girls extend their gratitude to Mrs. Gray for her understanding and guidance. 106 thier, A. Martel, E. TANTASQUA 32 SEARLES 6 With Scott Gardner leading the offense and de- TANTASQUA 12 PALMER 6 Palmer came into the game undefeated and they were surely a fine ball club with good balance. The first half was all Palmer for we could not get out of the shadow of our goal posts. Palmer intercepted our first three passes, blocked one punt and partially an- other. This one led to their six points. The second half proved to be a Tantasqua defensive as well as an offensive victory, when a recovered fumble on a punt gave us six points and an intercepted pass set up the winning T.D. Carl Paolucci threw ball car- riers for continuous losses and Dave Kaitbenski played another fine game. Fitting for our two co- captains to lead us to our last victory. TANTASQUA 28 AUBURN 6 fensive and showing his leadership ability, we de- feated the vastly improved Searles team. Kim Shu- mate did some fine ball carrying. TANTASQUA 10 MINNECHAUG 6 The Tantasqua defense proved to be too strong again as we beat Minnechaug, allowing them to score only late in the game. Jim Woodward, a freshman, played a fine game. TANTASQUA 10 HOLLISTON 0 The stubborn Holliston team put up a battle for a while but the Warriors proved to be too strong. The defense led by Scott Gardner, Dave Kaitbenski and Ted Wells was outstanding. Skip Freddette’s passing and the running of Al Dhembe and Kim Shumate led us to a win over Au- burn. Our defense led Ted Wells, Dave Kaitbenski and Carl Paolucci was tremendous. TANTASQUA 8 COMMERCE 0 Once again Tantasqua’s defense, led by Scott Gardner, was outstanding. Andy McdAuliff, Ted Wells, Carl Paolucci, Norm Robbins and Skip Fre- dette all played a fine game. WESTBORO 18 TANTASQUA 0 A very hard hitting Westboro team came back in the second quarter to score and give them the lead at the half. In the second half they drove to the one foot line only to fumble. This gave Westboro the incentive they needed to win. ATHOL 18 TANTASQUA 14 The biggest game in Central Mass. was between two unbeaten teams here at the reservation. Tantas- qua had a fantastic offense with Al Dhembe getting 168 yds. of the 400 yds. gotten by the team. Athol 450 yds. for the total offense. Although we lost, Athol knew they were in a game and they will al- ways respect the Warriors. tensa eeeeieenieeennanniaians eaeninnnall ay, sant ROW 1: S. Gardner, M. Trahan, M. Healy, N. Robbins, C. Tefft had a field goal shooting percentage that was outstandin g as he hit 120 of 262 shots for 46 percent. High scorers were Rich Tefft and John Weaver with 274 and 234 points, re- spectively. Publishing a YEARBOOK Is As Simple As To the casual reader a yearbook is often simply an “album” of pictures with written text. Merely ink on paper . . . though nice to own and enjoy. But to the staff and adviser the yearbook means much more. For yearbook work comprises a multi- tude of details: Layout, Art, Photography, Copy, Typography, Covers and Binding, (not to mention the small detail of money-raising). Highly techni- cal and often time-consuming and a source of anx- iety to a staff unless the publisher’s representative is trained to give needed help and suggestions. At American your publisher’s representative is a member of the school’s yearbook team. He is skilled in the many facets of yearbook work, hav- ing at his fingertips the answers to yearbook prob- lems as well as a multitude of ideas. He is always there when you need him. This is why we say ‘“‘Publishing a Yearbook is as simple as AYC.” Don Lendry Publisher’s Representative 2 ‘earbook Company Topeka, Kan.
