Goal Posts The finest football team in Tantasqua history capped an outstanding 6-1 record with a cliff-hanging 8-6 win over arch-rival Palmer. A third quarter pass, Booth to Lippe, and Co-Capt. Greg Dickinson’s two point conversion provided the Tantasqua points. This first victory even over the Panthers was preserved by the Warriors’ vaunted defensive unit which allowed a total of only 63 points all season. A sensational goal line stand in the last period left no doubt as to the superiority of Tantasqua’s front five of Haney, Tetreault, Healy, Nolan, and Hyland. The offense also proved explosive many times during the season; the 44 points scored on a highly-rated Plainfield eleven gave ample evidence of the Warriors’ power. Fullback Dickinson thrilled the crowds with his crushing thrusts through the middle and field general Dick Booth guided a vastly improved air attack. The season provided several outstanding memories besides the Palmer game. In the flashiest individual performance of the season halfback Dick Fortier broke loose for touchdown runs of 24, 65, and 89 yards in the 22-0 triumph over Leicester. Other memorable moments: Ron Lippe’s interception at Westboro; Ken Hedlund’s field goal against Millis; Ron Walulak’s drive for the extra points at Minnechaug; Co-Capt. Mark LePain’s inspiring leadership; Bumpy Howlett’s booming 67 yard punt at Plainfield.
