Scott ee SOLO Sean Sas nei is In the frontier life of one hundred years ago it was natural that physical prowess and bravery should have been held in high esteem. Today the frontier is intellectual, not physical. This thought was recent- ly expressed in a report by President Eisenhower. The scholar, the re- search worker, the scientist, and the teacher are the pioneers of today. Now, more than ever before in our history, we need young people with well-trained minds and ability to think. We need high quality leader- ship on the frontier of every field of human endeavor; in teaching and music, in art and in craft, in science and in economics. People who prize high quality education are essential to our nation’s progress, and even to its survival. I hope all of you are taking full advantage of the many opportuni- ties you have in school. Let me encourage each of you to grasp every opportunity to further your education and to prepare to meet the challenge of this twentieth century intellectual frontier.
