In Loving Memory of DOROTHY H. GERO 1938-1955 God calls our loved ones, but we lose not wholly What He hath given; They live on earth in thought and deed as truly As in His Heaven. John Greenleaf Whittier

ee eee ee et Be Superintendent's Message Success is never a sudden accomplishment. It is always the result of preparation. Those who “make good” in life have had the foresight and determination to prepare them- selves for it. Tantasqua High School can help all of you get the best of preparation, but only if you want the best badly enough to do something about it yourself. MR. WALTER E. SCOTT Have you ever wished to know the secret of a famous person’s success? Usually successful people are just ordinary human beings, with this exception: they work a little longer and a little harder than most of us. They let neither dis- couragement, nor doubt, nor seeming failure stand in the way of thei r ultimate success. You will find this particularly true should you visit Hollywood and become acquainted with some of the people you have come to know through the parts they portray on the screen. One such very accomplished person says, “I have noticed that usually the right door has a way of appearing when you have really made yourself ready to open it.” Opportunity is not the elusive creature of the business world that pessimists would have us believe. It is always ‘present for those who can recognize it and are prepared to seize it. It escapes only those who lack sufficient interest VAY hea LOT or proper preparation. ROBERT E. BRUCE Principal’s Message In less than two years Tantasqua has grown from an idea to reality. Through the co-operation of those who have an interest in the school, in the faculty, and in the student body, we have grown into a school that has attracted nation- wide attention—attention not only to the building, but also to the school’s program of studies and to its forward- looking approach to the problems of education. There has been a steady growth in school spirit and participation in all school activities. Let us all strive for that time when we can say, “I am proud to be a part of Tantasqua.” footed é

Dedication OUR BELOVED PRINCIPAL This June as we, the Senior Class, graduate from Tantasqua, there will be in our hearts a feeling of sadness tempering the joy of the occasion; for we shall miss the kindly smile and warm understanding that were always so readily bestowed upon us by our beloved Principal, Henry Card. Many of us spent our High School days under the wise direction of Mr. Card, and as we receive our diplomas at graduation we shall feel the presence of his spirit beside us. Mr. Card was with us through the long and difficult days of the planning and building of our fine school. With untiring energy and devotion he and his colleagues laid the cornerstone of our school on a bed rock of dedication to the highest principles of education. Henry Card lived to see our school firmly established and to see its first graduating students go forth to prove their value in the challenging world of today. He lives on in Tantasqua, for his noble spirit is a part of all that our school represents. In deep appreciation and in loving memory we dedicate this, the second Tantasquan, to Henry W. Card.
