As on every yearbook staff, we have had our share of days when it seems that everything has gone wrong. l wish to express my deep appreciation to those loyal members of the staff who saci- ficed not only week-ends but, also, gave me so much encouragement, making it possible to get the copy in on time. ln closing l want to thank Fern Kennedy, Publicity, Iohn Wasserman, Publicit Q lan Embry, Publicity and Dick Powers, Sports writer for the fine assistance given me. Advisor wr -SX Iohn Wasserman Spring Editor The Tamalpais News started the year off by sponsoring the Big Game Week, under the leadership of Editor Hank Lecy. The whole week before the football game between Tam and Drake was filled with sock hops, records at noon, and a Queen Contest. The winner of the contest was lanet Mooring. Regular editions of the Tam News were published every other week throughout the year, giving the students of Tam an up-to-date outlook on happenings around the school. Tamalpais is one of the few schools in California belonging to the Spanish National Honor Society. Spanish students with a grade of 94 or better are eli- gible for membership. The Spanish Honor Society held its third semi-annual dinner at the Hotel de Espana, in San Francisco. Miss Walker, who toured Europe last summer, was guest speaker. The exchange students from Germany and Hol- land were interviewed on Tam's portion of the Big Four soon after their arrival at Tam. The Big Four combined to present their version of A Christmas Carol on a special hour long show on Christmas Eve and wound up the year with a big New Year's Eve party, FRONT ROW, left to rightt Dick Powers, Cliff Rivers, Iim Battle, Bob Conger. Berkeley whitewashed Coach Millers Indians 26-0 in the season's opener. The second time out the Serra High Crusaders nosed out the Indian's Z1-19 with a safety notching up the game. The winning safety occurred when a Tamalpais punt was blocked and the ball then swarmed on by the Serra players. The third straight loss came as San Leandro stopped the redmen 12-7. Tam broke their three game losing slump while opening the league, defeating Napa 12-O. Santa Rosa evened up the Indians record the following week in spite of Tam's second half spurt. 'N MEN BEHIND THE TEAM The boys on this page are the hard-working, un- glorified men behind the team. These are the guys who work hours before and atter each game plus the time they put in during and after each practice session. Athletic teams would have a rough go of it without the services of a reliable manager to take care of equip- ment, pass out towels and listen to the gripes of the players. Bob McAnally, Walt Thomas and Dick Powers have the longest record ot service of any of the managers now at Tam. Bob, a senior, has managed varsity football four years, varsity and B basketball one year, and varsity baseball tour years. Dick, also in his last year of school, has not been a manager but has served as Statistician for tour years on the baseball squad and has two years standing with the basketball team.
