MIXED EHURU5 A group which displayed an interest and a true enjoyment in singing was the mixed chorus. Under the very capable direction of Miss Bush, it progressed rapidly after its organization at the beginning of the second semester. This group also took part in the music festival which was held at Toledo, March 31. Many members were added to the mixed chorus after the picture of this group was taken. These students were Genevieve Marlow. Shirley Nelson, Iune Stigers, Edith Mason, Gloria Youngbear, Voda Weaver La Von Iacobsen, Rita Jacobsen, Alice Mochal, and Kenneth Peters. One of the most entertaining of the small groups was the boys' quartette. These boys certainly displayed their en- joyment in singing. It was composed of Iames Mochal, bass: Fred Patterson, baritone: Lynn Frink, second tenor: and Iulius Lauderdale, first tenor. Several boys did some fine work on solos also. Iames Mochal, Iulius Lauderdale. and Fred Patterson displayed some fine talent in this work. GIRLS ELEE CLUB Tama again had a glee club of which everyone was very proud. This success was due to the keen interest and de- termination shown by the girls and their new director. Miss Ione Bush. Several appearances were made during the year, but perhaps the highlight of these was the participation in the music festival at Toledo. March 31. Officers for the year were the following: Manager, Marilyn Bramblett: Assistant Manager, Alice Mochal: Secretary, Ianice Sincox. An outstanding small vocal group was the girls sextet. These girls sang for various programs and certainly provided music that everyone enjoyed hearing. This well organized and trained group was composed of Betty Ratliffe, and Ianet Lauderdale, first soprano: Alice Overturf and Ianice Sincox, second soprano: Audra Peters and Iune Stigers, alto. The vocal department was very fortunate in having the fine group of talented soloists that it had this year. These students sang several times throughout the year, and they all took part in the music festival at Toledo. We wish continued success to these soloists: Edith Mason, Betty Ratliffe and Gloria Youngbear, soprano: Alice Overturf, Genevieve Marlowe, and Ianet Lauderdale, mezzo soprano: Audra Peters, contralto.

BAND One of the largest and finest organizations in the music department this year was the band. Stirring and entertain- ing music was provided at all the football and basketball games. They also gave sev- eral concerts, but perhaps the highlight of the whole year was the participation in the music festival which was held here in Tama on April 2. Our band had the opportunity of playing in the mass band which was composed of bands from Toledo, Traer, and Gladbrook. The instrumental department was also composed of some outstanding small groups. The trumpet trio, the clarinet quartet, and the brass sextet will be remembered for their fine music. This department was also distinguished for their fine group of soloists, who were featured at various programs during the year and who also took part in the music festi- val April 2.
