The Repair Division has a never ending task of fixing things, building things, improvising, making do with what they can. Many a welding job can arise on a large ship of steel and particularly one twenty-five years old. Another, and perhaps one of their most important responsibilities, is damage control pre- paredness of the ship. The damage control training program on TALUGA is one of the Service Force's finest. X Division, or the Administrative Division, includes the Ship's Office personnel, Nledical Department personnel, the Postal Clerk and his assistant, and the Chief lVlaster-at-Arms. The responsibilities of this division include maintenance of Officer and Enlisted Service Records and lVledical!Dental Records, all aspects of personnel matters, incoming and outgoing mail, health of the crew, sanitation of the ship, as well as enforcement of orders and regulations, both Navy and shipboard. During WESTPAC deployments, this division is responsible for any transient personnel and mail that is transported to various units. During this cruise, this division was responsible for receipt and transfer of over 400 transient personnel and the delivery of 1,945 bags of mail to various units off the coast of Vietnam. The efficient operation of this division can affect the morale of the crew as well as the overall efficiency of the ship.
