CAPT DAVIS is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He attended the U,S, Naval Acadamy and was graduated and commissioned in 1943. CAPT DAVIS has served as Gunnery Division Officer aboard the U.S.S. NEW YORK from 1943-1944. He attended flight training during 1945-1946, and was assigned to Fighter Squadron 1B, de loyed in the Mediterranean aboard the U,51S, MIDWAY, during 1946-1948. His other duty assignments include: Flight Instructor Advanced Training Command, Corpus Christi, Texas, 1948- 1950, Exchange duty USAF at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada - Flight Instructor, 1950-1951, Air Development Five - Project Officer, 1951-1953, Flight Squadron 191 - Operations Officer, WestPac Deployment in , . H. , 'V 1 Commanding Officer Captain John F.. Davis Oriskany, 1953-1954, Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Maryland, as Test Pilot, 1954-1957, BUWEPS, Project Officer for the F4 airplane, U.S,S, CORAL SEA as Executive Officer, 1962-1964, Staff COMNAVAIRPAC as Force Training Officer. CAPT DAVIS was Commanding Officer of Fighter Squadron 174, 1957-1959. He was graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College, and also the Industrial College of Armed Forces during 1961-1962. He re- ceived the Distinguished Flying Cross for setting the World's 100 kilometer closed course speed record, of 1390 mph, in Sep- tember 1960, in a F4 airplane. CAPT DAVIS assumed Command of U,S.S.
