C IAS S PROPHECY After berng employed wrth the Acme Drrllmg Company, I was rnformed one day I would have to go back to Talco, Texas to try to rnvest rn the orl freld whrch was just comrng rn the year I graduated rn '56 Thrs pleased me very much because I hoped to see some of my old classmates After I got off the plane rn Talco, I rented me a car from the I-Iendrrck's Used Car Lot In thrs souped up thmg I decrded to vrsrt the Hrgh School just to brrng back old memorres As I passed the Superrntendent's offrce, I looked rn expectrng to see Mr Lovrng but rnstead there sat Jerry Hood In the next room was the prrncrpal, Davrd johnson, and the secretary, Mrs Allen Elkrns, the former Judy Verble As we all sat talk mg the School Nurse, Martha Brown, and the two coaches, Darrell Morrrs and Danrel johnson walked rn The coaches told me the football team was well on therr way to winnrng State Champronshrp They also told me that a former football and baseball star of our class of '56 was now catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers and I knew rt could be none other than Bobby Broughton, a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers from way back After leavrng the school I was drrvrng slowly down the road notrcrng all the beautrful burldrngs, whrch later I found out had been desrgned by the famous Archrtect, james Gaddrs One of the burldrngs that really caught my eye was the Musrc Store, wrth a srgn on the door, owner Cato jones After seemg that, my curr osrty made me wander down to the bank, just to see who was presrdent There srttrng countmg the money was jrmmy W11lra.ms, takrng drctatron was hrs secretary Vera Bennett After leavrng the bank, I then got back rnto the souped up car As I started off the mufflers sounded off and before I knew rt the sherrff, Larry Horton and hrs deputy Roger Cabell had stopped me After recog mzrng me they handed me a wammg trcket We decrded to go have a cup of coffee rn the restaurant across the sherrff told me they were tryrng to catch the threves who had robbed the Elrte Dress Shop owned by Mrs Spurgeon Peaden, the former Wanda Sloan Durrng the robbery the head model, Shrrley Watts, was slrghtly rnjured and was taken to the crty hosprtal where the head nurse, Mrs Bob Phrlrps the former Rrta Shaw, was on du:ty That afternoon, I decided to take rn a movre, the Strand, owned by johnny Gartman Starrrng was Lefty Hammond and jackre Robertson m ' Too Pooped to Pop drrected by La Grand Denton Next to the theater was the S G S Beauty Shop owned by Johnnre Stockton and Pat Swarts On leavrng the theater, I saw Mr 8 Mrs Brlly Ramey, the fom'rer Peggy Holland, and Mr 6 Mrs Gene Worthmgton and famrly, and Mr 8 Mrs Harold Horton, the former Myrna Hall By thrs trme rt was gettrng late, but I drdn 't want to mrss the football game, so I hurrred to the football stadrum and I notrced the referees were Charles Lewrs and Bud Hanks After seemg the game, whrch the Trojans won, I walked over and renewed my acquarntance wrth Mr G Mrs Johnny Lelley, who were nrnnrng the Lelley Electrrcal Applrance Store Upon retrrrng for the evenrng rn the Do Drop Motel, owned by Gaylon Rrddle, he told me about some of my classmates, such as, jerelene Waldrum and Alva Nell Blalock who were happrly marrred and were lrvrng rn Mt Pleasant, and Paulrne Laws, who was now working rn Dallas as a telephone operator These I had not seen I asked hrm about the large ranch I had seen whrle coming into town He informed me rt belonged to Doyle Dyke I was rn my room gettrng ready for bed when I notrced on the front of the darly paper where the Game Warden, Mr Larry Wrllrarns, had frned some hunters for shootmg a deer out of season Before laying the paper down, I notrced the edrtor was none other than jerry Brown, the guy that had been a whrz and knew all the gossrp at school After lymg rn bed for a whrle, I thought about the busrness l had come to do but rnstead I had renewed old acquarntances Wrth thrs I fell asleep .
