As I wandered down the street the f1rst home I came to was that of Mr and Mrs P1erce Hendr1x and the1r s1x ch1ldren Mrs Hendr 1X says she 1S happy to be the mother of them all She 1S better known as Dale Neeley Just next door 1S the home of Ierrel and Kathy Drummond They have only four Chlld r en two boys and two g1rls They seem to be followxng 1n the1r parents footsteps The boys play football and the g1rls are maj or ette s 1n the band under the d1rect1on of Gene Hall It s surpr1s1ng how much a p e 1' s on can 1mprove s1nce Ch1IdhOOd Farther on down the street, I came upon a l1ttle four room home Upon the door was the name The Loft1n s wh1ch I recalled as the name of an old classmate I dec1ded to pay h1m a V1S1t to f1nd out what happened to the few other rema1n1ng classmates As I knocked on the door, Mrs Loft1n answered and a s ke d me 1n I d1dn t have much t1me, soI only stayed long enough to f1nd out that Mr and Mrs Thomas Leake were l1v1ng on the1r own l1ttle farm Just outs1de of town They have no ch1ldren but they are very happy Mrs Leake IS the former Ethel Alsobrook By th1s t1me the day was almost over and I had to be gett1ng home On the way to the a1rport, Iwas lucky enough to see .TIITIXTIY W1ll1ams go1ng home after a. hard day 1n the Off1Ce As I reached the a1rport and got 1nto my plane, I stopped a mlnute to rev1ew my pleasant day, and I rea11zed that the clas s of 51 had all ach1eved somethmg out of l1fe As I flew off 1nto the hor1zon, I left beh1nd me a tra1l of maJest1c memor1es . CLASS PROPHECY One fa1r and br1ght morn1ng 1n September, 1961, I was racmg across the country 1n a Jet plane and I not1ced the large c1ty of Talco Th1s was once the l1ttle town of my Ch11dh0Od and school days I found the c1ty a1rport, and upon landmg I asked perm1ss1on to leave my plane for the day, as I thought I mrght see or hear of some of my old classmates I was on my way to the t1cket offzce to call a tax1 when I m et an old pal, Donald Freeman who 15 now a p1lot I guess h1s dreams came tr ue Suddenly, I had another surpr1se for there was Curtls S1kes, who was on h1s way to New York C1ty to start an engineermg career He told me that Barbara Canter who was so act1ve ln church and school work had gone to Korea as a m1ss1onary and 1S domg a great Job for Amerxca today and that Gladys Matlock left only a few months ago for Hollywood and already has he r name 1n l1ghts He also told me that Shelby Barger s1gned up for the a1r corps dur1ng the Korean war back 1n 51 and stayed in as a prxvate for n1ne years He frnally gave up and has now gone to Callfornia to play 1n the Rose Bowl for char1ty to crlppled ch1ldren After a few hours at the a1rport, I declded to make a tour of the bus1ness and res 1dent1al d1str1cts so I called a tax1 As the reckless dr1ver screeched toa haltlng stop, I recogn1zed h1m as an old c la s s m a te Don Spruell, who was always dr1v1ng h1s father s car 1n the same way dur1ng h1S teenage years He told me he could not dec1de wh1ch of h1s glrl frlends to marry so he s Jus t dr1v1ng a cab and l1v1ng an as Clyde Bennett was d1rect1ng traff1c I soon came upon a swanky n1ght club known as Teague s Hot Spot Meurlene and David s e em to be domg pretty well A I neared the club I saw Doris Jean Penn and we enjoyed a very pleasant V1S1t I soon learned that she was piarust there and had to go to work, so I drove on Round 1ng a corner, I saw the old school bu1ld1ng and stopped I saw three of my old class- mates,Imogene Rodgers and Dorothy Blalock, who were teachers and Wayne Smel ley, who was prlncipal They told me to go to the dress1ng room and meet two of my old budd1es I wandered off down to the gym and walked 1n Two coaches w e r e sxt t1ng at the usual place talk1ng over the plans for next week s football game At f1r st I d1dn tJcnow them, but they introduced themselves as coaches McCuller and Howard After v1s1t1ng the high school, I dec1ded I would v1sit the Un1vers1ty There I found Professor Robert Bob, Parker He told me that he liked h1s Job very well He was st1ll smngle As I went back through town, I saw Kathryn S1mms, who was a news reporter She told me that Mrs Bill W1nkle better known to us as Betty Hawthorne had just r e turned home from Japan after an e1ghteen day tr1p to see her husband Mrs Wmkle IS very proud of her f1ve chlldren On my way out to the resldential sect1on I came UPC Randle s Saloon operated by B1lly Joe Randle Everyone s ay s he IS domg f1ne w1th his torch s1nger, Jesse Faye Waldrurn, better known as The Flame M1ss Waldrunm told me that Rita Nell Harris was that famous H1llb1lly singmg star of stage, s cr een and rad1o, and that Edwina Jones was st1ll bemg rushed by the young men as she was in h1gh school 3 l . a . 0 . , . . . . . . , . . , . . .
