FOREWORD This is the school ......... Tahoma Senior High School. But it is more; it is a living breathing organism, composed of students, teachers, athletes, clubs and activities. All are necessary; all are important in preparing boys and girls to be men and women of the future. Tahoma High School Maple Valley, Washington i PRESIDENT I960 Space-Age Education became the keynote ot Tahoma schools this year as voters approved a million-dollar plus building program...... Below: a sketch of the proposed new Junior High School, a photograph of work beginning on an addition to the new Tahoma Elementary School, and a sketch of what Tahoma High will look like before long........ 3 Sharon Dufenhorst Mr. Ziegner Donna Bruce Co-Editor Adviser Business Manager ANNUAL STAFF Pictured here is the annual staff, getting ideas from a layout manual. Putting out an annual is not all fun. Many long hours must be spent typing, pasting, dummying, and selling ads. Without our adviser, Mr. Ziegner, and our photographer, Mr. Jensen, we could not have put out this 1960 yearbook. Thanks to all who helped us. Larky McKittrick Co-Editor ADMINISTRATION Students of today, yours is the greatest challenge and responsibility in the history of mankind. Survival of the democratic way of life is in your hands. Russia, realizing that the world cannot survive another world war, is making an all-out effort to improve the educational standard of her people. At the same time, a vigorous and almost fanatical attempt is being made to sell their communistic form of government to the rest of the world. Only through better educational programs and an eager desire on the part of our students to improve their degree of training, can we hope to perpetuate our way of life. I urge you to accept the challenge. Your theme for this annual, Space Age, is well chosen. You were in school when earth-bound mem first reached outward to the stars. The satellites and space probes are fantastic and no doubt the vanguard of a new age has appeared on our horizon. As your principal, I would ask you to remain humble and to remember that man is but a small creature who spends almost all of his life within one mile of the surface of one of the tiny spheres of the universe. In your life, as in that of your parents and teachers, integrity, ambition, and hard work will still spell success when intelligently Oren C. Jensen Principal applied. Now in the Space Age, as you call it, may I extend my very best wishes for your future happiness and success. Then came initiation. This convinced us of the superiority of the upper-classmen. Leading us through this uncertain year as president was Judy Markus. Among our activities during the year we held a dance honoring the seniors . . . because we enjoyed initiation so much! Several more talented members of our class took part in the all-school play, Years Ago. The year ended with us gaining enough confidence to want to come back as sophomores. September of 1957 found 53 of us once again roaming the halls of Tahoma. This year Christy Litras was selected as our president. During this year students again took part in the all-school play, The Perfect Idiot and the all-school musical, Smoky Mountain. As a money making project we held a pie auction with Bill Pewitt as our auctioneer. We didn't make much money, but we had fun. We brought the year to a close — a picnic at Lake Francis. As juniors we were once again 50 in number, and Larky Mc-Kittrick was our president. The big highlight of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom, sponsored by both classes in the latter part of March. The theme was Gateway to the Stars. The dance drew many favorable comments and was a beautiful climax to the end of the year. A TAV. y.vw V?.YA . i w- A VAV-V . 2tav« • «.VAV. —- •7. •• •% r0 Well, here we are as seniors, and this too has been a busy year filled with excitement and anticipation as the month of June draws near. Among the activities this year were the Junior-Senior Prom, the Junior-Senior Banquet, and the Senior play which brought the class together as a unit to continue through the year. It was hard work putting it together, but it was fun and we will always remember it. After twelve years of schooling we are now ready to step out into the world of today. Some will find jobs, some will marry, and some will continue on to college, but, whatever we do, it will be in the modern world of today—the Space Age. v 7x By Larky McKittrick A -J Joan Becklund . . For this amount the student receives admission to all games and national assemblies, subscription to the school newspaper, and voting rights in the Student Body.
