TAHOKA HIGH SCHOOL TAHOKA, TEXAS VOLUME 22 1960 KENNEL A yearbook tells a story, paints a picture, or composes a tune. With this in mind, the Kennel Staff began tentative plans, realizing that the story, the picture, or the tune must be able to convey a message. We knew that just as a faulty link weakens the chain, so shall a missing stroke upset the perspective of the creation. Through the Feature section, the past is seen. Through the Faculty, Organization, and Sports sec- tions, the future is represented. Our Advertising section extends school-community relationships and characteristically features the students. Meeting the Chal1enge . . . this is the theme of your 1960 Kennel. This is the theme of mankind in the book of life. Challenged by new horizons, we explore - never keeping ourselves prisoners from our ideals - always eager to grasp the baffling and hazy objects which hide deep in our minds. Youth accepts the challenge of life. Our aim is to try, to strive, to struggle, to fight, and to win. Although defeat may appear, we must meet the challenge and search for the answers. To the painter, who has captured the mood on his canvas . . the young boy, who has mastered the baseball . . . the student, striving to make the grade . . . the teacher, seeking to mold the minds of Youth . . the mother, cheerfully completing her daily tasks . . . the father, who always treads his path in rain or snow . . the teenager, striving for popularity . . . the businessman, keeping pace in a competitive world . . the singer, who improves and perfects . . . the farmer, the blacksmith, the carpenter, the writer, the actor, the pioneer. the dreamer, To these . . . we give honor with this book . . . for theirs is a struggle which pushes us on in times of sadness, theirs is a success which cheers us in our time of joy, theirs is a light which comes in the dark to guide us - to remind us of our task. To all of these people and more, to each of you, who have met the challenge, the staff and I dedi- cate this 1960 Kennel. Sincerely, isdxk Carol Smith Editor TABLE OF CONTENTS FACULTY PAGE 6 CLASSES PAGE I4 ORGANIZATIONS PAGE so PAGE 80 FEATURE PAGE 104 ADVERTISING PAGE 124 STAFF SPONSOR Mrs. Wood EDITOR Carol Smirh ASSISTANT EDITOR Vennre Faye Ratlrff FEATURE EDITOR Sunny Glbson CLASS EDITORS Martha Bell I1ll Walker SPORT S EDITOR Buddx Chestnutt ORGANIZA TION EDITOR Helen Long ADVERTISINIG MANAGER Sharon Applewhrte L1nda W1Il1ams STAFF VIEMBERS Sue Henrx Rebecca McCu1ston Jack Stevens L3 nn Graysol 3 SPORTS .... PRINCIPAL The door of knowledge is labeled Push, As the 1959-1960 school year comes to a close, I hope that T, H, S. has rendered every service possible toward providing the student body with a portion of that desired knowledge. May T. lI.S. always render the type of training that will prepare young citizens for the future as well as for the present. May the student body realize that the future belongs to those who prepare for it, and the student body mustdiligentlygive their time and effort to help make T. ll. S. the educa- tional medium for which it is intended. The 1959-1960 yearbook will aid you in perpetuating the happiest days of your life by preserving pleasant memories and treas- ured items of T. H. S. May the most in success and happiness be yours. SUPERINTENDENT Education isacompanion which no mis- fortune can decrease, no crime, destroy, no enemy, alienate: no despotism, enslave: at home, a friend, abroad, an introduction, in solitude, a solaceg in society, an orna- ment. lt chastens vice, guides virtue, and gives grace and government to genius. Education may cost financial sacrifice and mental pain, but in both money and life values itwill repay every cost one -hundred- fold. Education plus determination and persistence, will enable you to achieve most any goal you may set for yourself. Sincerely, n Q -wb 1 MQ ' iff 6 mm fggf Q M444 Q14 iv' , ?Ffiw .
