Taught at the Bishop Field College in St. kjohn's, Newfoundland from 1929- 1933 and was Professor of Chemistry at the Memorial University College, St. john's, from 1933-42. Vlas a member of the Council of Higher Education in Newfoundland from 1929-42 and Scientific Assessor to the Newfoundland Government 1932-42. The following year received his M.A. degree from Yale and in 1916 his Ph.D. degree. From 1910 to 1912 was an instructor in Classics at Princeton and from 1912 to 1917 at Yale. During the First X'Vorld War served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Field Artillery. From 1920 to 1933 was Vice-President of the Fisk Rubber Company and President of the Fisk Tire lixport Company.
