Taught at University of Wisconsin in 1945-44, and joined the American Mathematical Society. The next summer he took graduate courses at Brown University. He came to Taft in 1944. Muiir. Illufbezmlfizir In 1931 he was graduated from Yale, where he majored in music. He immed- iately took up teaching in the Hossac School in upper New York state and meanwhile studied at Columbia University, receiving his masters degree in 1936. For ten years before coming to Taft he taught at West Hartford Junior High School and in the Mathematics and Music departments of Blair Academy. HAROLD BARNES B. A., M. A. EDWIN GILLETTE, B. A. Mrzlfaezzzaliri' Graduating from Hamilton College in 1937 with a B. A. degree, he taught mathematics at Middlebury College until 1939. He did graduate work at Syracuse University, returning there to teach summer school after another year at Middlebury. From 1942 to 1945 he served on the faculty of Williams College and then came to Taft. French After receiving his B. A. at the University of Michigan in 1954 and his M. A. in 1936, he taught there until 1941, when he took a job in a war plant. He joined the faculty of a Michigan high school in 1945 and remained there until he came to Taft in 1945. 1946

Was a member of Pi Delta Epsilon and Delta Upsilon. After a postgraduate course at Columbia for an M.A. degree, went to the University of Paris for one year on a Dutton Fellowship scholarship. Taught one year at Topslield High School in Mass. and nine years at Friends Academy in Locust Valley, L. I. before coming to Taft in 1943. HENRY BEAUMONT PENNELL, A.B. Hixzory, Mazhemazicr Prepared for college at Romford. Then entered Williams, graduating in 1943. Was a member of Chi Psi, and played Freshman football, basketball, and track. Also made J. V. football. Came to Taft in 1943. Malhematicr, Latin JOHN EDWARD KINGSBURY BA JACK TREVITHICK, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. A graduate of Taft in 1932 and Hamilton College in 1936 While at Hamilton played on the soccer, hockey, track, and tennis teams, and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. From 1936 to 1943 was associated with the Crouse Hinds Electrical Manufacturing Co. Served on the Board of Directors of Syracuse Junior Chamber of Commerce 1939 to 1943, Returned to Taft in 1943. Engliib Took his BA at Trinity College in 1931, where he was awarded the Mary A. Terry Fellowship. Attended Harvard in 1932 and received his M.A. degree. From 1932 to 1940 he taught English at Trinity, and meanwhile took his Ph.D. at Yale in 1939. He was for four years an assistant professor of English at the Citadel. Came to Taft in 1944. 1946

The Taft Annual WALTER SIMONS, B. A. Malbematiav He attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1943. While there he was on the Freshmen and Varsity crews. After a year's graduate work at Rutgers and at Columbia, he taught for a year before coming here at Hackley School, Tarrytown, New York, where he coached Lower School football, hockey, and swimming teams. He was a Silver Skates speed-skating champion for two years in New York and Philadelphia. JOHN WARREN DAN FORTH Hi.rl01'y A graduate of Taft in 1941. Then entered Williams until the call to colors interrupted his Senior year. While at Williams was a member of the swim- ming and basketball teams. Served in the Marine Corps for two years. Returned to Taft in April, 1946. JOHN H. WHITTELIORE, A. B. S,tmni.rh, Frenrb Prepared for college at Avon and Hill schools and also at LeRosey in Switzer- land. Took his B. A. at Harvard in 1941 and then entered the service, where he became a lieutenant in the U.S.N.R. Came to Taft in November, 1945. IQ46 f
