'llre Taft Annual Hirtory Lieutenant 1943-46. EDWIN CHURCH DOUGLAS, A.B.,A.M. Head of Malbemutifx Depmtnzenl Prepared for college at Boys' High School, Brooklyn, New York. Was graduated from Hamilton College in 1929. While there he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Sigma Rho, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and interfraternity Council, and on the cross country and track teams, a member of the basketball squad, and Captain of Intercollegiate Debate. Was Elihu Root Fellow at Harvard, Assistant Swimming Coach. and Director of Swimming for the Summer Session, 1931, Received A.M. in department of mathematics, 1931. He came to Taft in 1951. Served in the Army as Technical Sergeant 1942-45. ROBERT TAFT OLMSTEAD, B.A. Biology Prepared for college at Newton High School, Newton, Mass. Was graduated from Bowdoin College in 1927, where he was a member of the Masque and Gown and Zeta Psi. While there he was on the debating team and was three years on the football team. In 1927 and 1928 he taught at Phillips Andover Academy, in 1928 and 1929 at the Browning School, New York, from 1929 till 1952 at Short Hills School in New York, and from 1932 till 1934 at the Cambridge School in Boston, Mass. He came to Taft in 1934. 1946 ROBERT CARR ADAMS, JR BA Prepared for college at Newton High School, Mass Was graduated from Bowdoin College in 1929, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Zeta Psi, Student Council, and Ibis. While there he was three years on the football team and four years on the track team. Came to Taft in 1929 and has become head coach of track and assistant coach in football Served in the Navy as DANIEL H. FENTON, B.A., MA PhD Head of Latin Departmerzl Prepared for college at Public High School, Holyoke Mass In 1909 he received a B. A. at Yale. While there he had Highest Honors Philosophical Oration Spe cial Honors in Classics, was Ivy Poet, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa The fol lowing year he received his M.A. degree and in 1916 hrs Ph D From 1910 to 1912 he was an instructor in Classics at Princeton, and from 1912 to 1917 he served in the same capacity at Yale. During the World War he served as lst Lieutenant Heavy Artillery. Became Vice-President of the Fisk Rubber Company and Presi dent of the Fisk Tire Export Company. In 1933 he retired from business and entered Yale Graduate School during the period from 1933 1934 C2-me to Taft in 1954 and has become head of the Greek and Latin Department

fllwe Taft Annual GEORGE H. MORGAN, Mus. B. Murir Prepared for College at Morrison R. Waite High School, Toledo, Ohio, entering Columbia in 1919, where he studied for two years and was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He attended the Institute of Musical Art in New York City during the years of 1919 to 1922. In 1922 he taught at the Institute of Musical Art and at Horace Mann School. In 1930 he received the degree of Mus. B. from Yale University. Came to Taft in 1925. ROLAND VVINTHROP TYLER, Ph.B., M.A. Englifb and Public Speaking Prepared for college at Beverly High School, Beverly, Mass. At the University of New Hampshire he edited the Y.M.C.A. handbook, the weekly newspaper, and the year book. Was on the Debating Team, the Dramatic Club, and a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Was graduated from Yale in 1925 with honors and a Ph.B. degree. In 1929 gained a master of arts degree at Boston University. He came to Taft in 1925 and has charge of Public Speaking and the Debating work. HCWWARD C. FARWELI., B.S., M.A. HENRY PUTNAM STEARNS, B.A., M.A. Hirfory Prepared for college at Choate School. Graduated from Yale in 1922, where he was a member of Zeta Psi and delivered the lvy Oration. Taught Latin at the Choate School in the following year and taught at the Westminster School 1923- 1926. where he was head of the History Department and faculty advisor of the publications. Studied at Harvard Graduate School and received degree of M.A. in History in 1927. Head of History Department at john Burroughs School, St. Louis, Missouri, 1927-1928. Came to Taft in 1928. Iliilory Prepared for college at Providence Technical High School. Graduated from Middlebury in 1915 with B.S. degree. Headmaster of Lincoln High School, Lin- coln, New Hampshire, from 1914-1917. In 1918 he was given his M.A. at Brown. In 1918 he was in the United States Signal Corps, and he was with the War Camp Community Service from 1918-1919. Head of the History Department at St. Paul Academy, St. Paul, Minn., 1920-1928. Came to Taft in 1928. tl 94 6

The Taft Annual JOHN FRISBY MORSE, B.A. Regirzfar Prepared at Kent for Yale, from which he graduated in 1935. While at Yale he was a member of Calhoun College and Alpha Chi Rho, and during his Senior year was a member of the University Golf Team. He taught for two years at Romford School before coming to Taft in 1957. WALTER ROTAN ' Aft Was graduated from the Maryland Institute of Fine and Applied Arts in 1929. Attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 1930-1933. He exhibited at the American Water Color Society, the Chicago Art Institute, the Corcoran Galleries in Washington, the Pennsylvania Academy Exhibits, the Cincinnati Museum of Art, and the Arden Galleries in New York. He is also represented in the permanent collection of the Brookgreen Gardens Museum and is an associate member of the National Sculpture Society. He came to Taft in the fall of 1938. GEORGE WERRENRAT1-l,B.A., M.A. CHARLES ARMISTEAD COIT, B.A. Latin and French After preparing for college at the Gilman School in Baltimore and the Taft School. he entered Yale University in the fall of 1935, graduating in the class of 1939. While at college he played intra-mural hockey and baseball. In his senior year he earned a scholarship at a French University but was unable to take it because of unsettled conditions abroad. Came to Taft in the fall of 1939. Served in the Army 1943-46. Frenflf and Sfmniila Was prepared for college at Tabor, where he graduated in 1929. He went on to Dartmouth, where he received his B.A. dgree in 1955. He then went to Middle- bury. where he got his M.A. degree in 1940. He comes to Taft after six years of teaching experience at the Park School in Buffalo, at Culver, and at Northwood. He also spent two summers teaching abroad in France. Came to Taft in 1941, where, besides assisting in soccer and track, he has become coach of fencing Served in the Army 1943-45. 1946
