The Taft .Annual ANDREW DUNCAN MCINTOSH, B.A. Dean Was graduated from Highland College, Highland, Kansas, in 1899. Spent the following year at Princeton. Became master at Kiskirninitas Springs School in 1900. After one year there he went to Yale to study for a year. Came to Taft in 1903. CHARLES BEANE WELD, BA Head of Efzglirla Deparzmenz Was prepared for college at Beeman Academry, New Haven, Vermont. Was graduated in the class of 1905 from Middlebury College, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Taught English and Latin at Betts Academy, Stamford, Conn., in 1906. Spent 1907 to 1911 teaching English at Davenport High School, Davenport, Iowa. Did graduate work in English at the University of Chicago in the summer sessions of 1908, 1909, and 1910. Came to Taft in 1911. HENRY MORSE WELLS, B.A. Head of Modem Language D6l7uI7'll7l8l7l After graduating from Harvard University in 1905, was appointed instructor in English at College de Cambrai, France. While there, attended the University of Lille for graduate work. The following year was instructor in English and French in the University School, Chicago, Ill. In 1908 went to Dartmouth College as in- structor in French. Spent year 1911-1912 studying in Spain. Came to Taft in 1912. ARTHUR CHARLES THOMAS, B.A. bzlin Was graduated from Middlebury College in 1912. At Middlebury he belonged to the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After leaving college he taught for one year at Boy's Latin School, Baltimore, Md., and was a student in the Middlebury Summer School in 1913. Came to Taft in 1913. - 1946

HARLIN ALBERT SEXTON, B.A. llie Taft Annual JOHN T. REARDON, B.A., M.A. Head of Hixzory Department Was graduated from Dartmouth in 1914, where he was valedictorian, member of Chi Phi, and President of Phi Beta Kappa. Studied at Yale for one year, after which he won Prix de Rome. He studied at Universities of Rome, Madrid, and Zurich and was a member of American Academy at Rome for two years. After having been assistant at American Embassy in Rome in 1917, he came to Taft to be head of history department. Englfrb Graduated from Harvard in 1911, being pitcher on the baseball team. In 1912- 1913 attended Springfield College and played on the baseball and basketball teams. In 1914 became director of athletics at the Springfield Technical High School, where he coached the baseball, basketball, track, and soccer teams. During 1917 and 1918 was director of Public Recreation for the city of Springfield, Mass. Came to Taft in 1919. CHARLES HOWELL SHONS, B.A. 1 SHERMAN CAWLEY, S.B. Englirb Was graduated Cum Laude from Harvard in 1911. Member of Phi Eta Club. Engaged in newspaper work in Boston in 1911-1912 and in settlement work in New York City in 1912-1913. Was instructor in English in Thacher School, Ojai, Calif., in 1914-1915. Taught English and mathematics at Country Day School, Louisville Ky., from 1915 to 19173 from 1917 to 1922 was head of the English department at the St. Paul Academy, St. Paul, Minn. Came to Taft in 1922. Azlalelif Director Prepared for college at the Lawrenceville School. Graduated in 1912 from Williams. While there he was president of the Senior Class, member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity and Gargoyle Society, Glee Club, and baseball team. Taught at Lawrenceville School and Ashville School. In 1917 he ioined the R.O.T.C. at Plattsburg. Later sent overseas, where he received a captain's commission. Taught at Stadium High School, Tacoma, Washington. Came to Taft in 1922. Taught French for three years and then assumed head of athletic department, coaching soccer. Returned to active military service in March, 1942. Promoted to rank of Lt.Col. Honorably discharged in March, 1944. l 946
